"Then Malin raised his hands and sent a torrent of lightning down upon his adversaries. His very own children were falling in the line of battle and the cruel king didn't even bat an eye."
"Gene" Mrs. Being interrupted. "When I asked for the students to share a dramatic reading. I did not approve children's comic books in the list of available options."
"But this is arguably the most dramatic scene in the whole series. Joseph Killian said that while writing the story-"
"Mr. Killian is not a student in this class. However you, Mr. Maldo are in this class and you were told to perform a dramatic reading within the guidelines that I have set."
"Please, just give me one more day. I promise to find a real book to read." Gene pleaded with the teacher while I let my a anxiety bubble up. I hate talking in front of people. You know what, I hate just standing in front of people.
Gene's name is right before mine in the alphabet and hearing the beating Mrs. Being just gave made the cocoons in my stomach burst into butterflies.
"Ok moving on, Maya Malin. Come to the front of the class."
I stood up and shuffled my way to the wobbly pedestal. "I um..." I looked up and Gene gave me a nod. "I'm reading and old translated Greek poem called i̱ telikí̱ máchi̱, translated into the final battle." I took a deep breath. "Hell will send a spawn of demon flesh. It's goal is to take zeus' throne. You will send a son of godly flesh. She will pass a tedious trial alone. The tasks to complete are a treacherous feat. The winner will say weather man gets to stay or move to an underworld home." I waited for what felt like forever as Mrs. Being just stared. "Maya" she said "That was an excellent reading. Please, tell us the story behind why you chose this piece."
"I chose it well... um... I guess because it was about a girl. In all the old poems about warriors, the hero is a man. It was refreshing to see that the early years, when sexism thrived, there was still hope for women in the future."
"That's an interesting point, Maya. Very good."
I took my seat and exhaled. If the poem was true, I wonder who won.
