Key Eight: Positivity

Beginning Quote: "You will never get anywhere being negative. But, everything is possible when you are positive." ~Unknown

I can't do it. There's no way. I'm terrible. It's impossible.

Ever have thoughts like that? Thoughts that tell you that you can't?

Well, those kind of thoughts have a name. Negative. They are negative thoughts.

I can do it! I can make it through! I know it can happen!

Now, have you ever had thoughts like that? Thoughts that tell you that you can?

These thoughts have a name as well. Positive. They are positive thoughts.

Read the thoughts again. Which ones made you feel stronger? Which ones helped you?

The group burst out into laughter yet again.

"You know," Blake said, still laughing. "We should do this all day. I wonder how much better today will be if we just stay positive no matter what."

The rest of us agreed to Blake's idea. Before we began our afternoon workout, Blake made a rule to make sure we stayed positive.

"If anyone says something negative, I get to pinch them for five seconds. With my toes!" she declared.

We would definitely be staying positive today. Nobody wanted to get pinched by Blake's toes. They created bruises that lasted weeks, not to mention the excruciating pain when they grabbed the skin on your leg. It was torture. The ultimate you-really-messed-it-up-bad punishment. Death.

In other words, I would do anything to escape a pinch. I would go for my flic-back on the high beam, my bail without the sting mat on bars, even my yurchenko half on vault, just to stop her devilish toes from grabbing my skin.

Surprisingly, I found that staying positive, though difficult at times, helps bunches. It helped me push through vault when I felt like I couldn't even walk another step. It helped me stay strong on bars when my hands felt like they were going to fall off. It helped me relax on beam when the amount of routines was overwhelming. It helped me breathe on floor when all my tumbling felt off.

Overall, my day went a heck of a lot better when I was positive.

Sadly, many of the people in my gym are still thinking negative thoughts. It is showing in their skills.  They could be so much better if they started thinking positive. My goal is to make everyone in the gym become positive thinkers.

Do you now hold possession of the eighth Key? Do you now fill your mind with positive thoughts?

If you have, way to go! You are now one Key closer to opening the door to understanding life! Keep it up, and soon you will be able to open it!

If you haven't yet learned how to replace the negative thoughts with positive ones, it is okay. Do not beat yourself up, and tell yourself you can't find the eighth Key! That is negative thinking, and will get you nowhere. Tell yourself that you can find that Key!

Hey, that's a positive thought!
