You could say once upon a time I was a kid. Innocent. Care-free.
Everything was perfect except it wasn't because life just isn't fair that way.
I had lost my mother when I was nine and had been sent to live in a foster home. Except I wasn't the only foster kid in the house; and since I was the newbie I got picked on. A lot.
So much I wouldn't want to interact with anyone. I wouldn't eat. I wouldn't even sleep.
I truly don't know how I went without sleeping back then but since the lady fostering me got worried she...well, she sent me back.
Not really sure how you can send back a kid but she did it. I was soon off to an orphanage until some one decided they wanted to adopt me.
To this day I never believed anyone would want me and the thing is, it's still like that today.
I never got adopted.
Little did I know then that that may have been a good thing because if not I never would have met Green.
When I was ten and still at the orphanage, I was as lonely as the day my mother had died, I was reading under my bed when I heard a commotion from above. I was too busy reading to want to look up but it got so loud I was going to jump on the bed and yell at everyone to be quiet, which even for me back then was too much, but when I got out from under everyone gasped in surprise that I had even moved. They were shushed as I stared then all down and slowly they scattered, moving away in murmurs and whispers.
In almost a dash, they revealed what was the most interesting thing in my life, Green.
A boy with messy, ruffled hair but with eyes so bold and bright, the color of dense forests. Something so amazing I actually approached him. I even took the courage to ask him his name.
"Green," he smiled, 'but can I tell you a secret?"
I had always wondered to myself why some boy I just met would want to tell me a secret. Confused, I nodded.
"I don't really like it but I was named that when I was found on the front steps of my old orphanage." He told me his secret. He then held up one finger before saying, "I was only 1 then."
I truly didn't know what to say but only gaped at him before he asked, 'What's your name?"
I was reluctant since my name was so weird, but told him, 'Odessa.'
And, to be honest, we instantly clicked.
He was the whole reason I wasn't a turtle. The reason I've broken laws.
But little did I know at the time it was worth it and not at the same time.
