Manhattan at night; one of the most dazzling sights in the world. The city's iconic skyline transforms into a shimmering tapestry, with each skyscraper adorned with a unique pattern of lights. The streets below pulse with equal vibrant energy as cars and other vehicles keep them alive all night. Aliya's car wizzes past the Times Square's billboards. Her high heel presses the accelerator with more pressure. Her sweating hands are trying to grip the steering wheel steadily. Her heart hammers against her ribs, a fanatic drumbeat echoing the incessant rhythm of the wipers. Unpredictable and untimely rain makes the circumstances more challenging.
"What have I just heard? Dhruv! Dhruv tried to kill Manik, but why? They are childhood friends. And who was that guy whom he was beating and threatening? I guess Dhruv locked him inside that room. That's why he always keeps me away from that side. God! What should I do now? Should I tell Manik? No, I hardly talk to him. What if he doesn't believe me? After all, Dhruv is his friend, and I am a lesser-known person to him. Should I call Nandini? She may believe me."
Random doubt clouds her mind. She grabs the steering wheel tightly.
"She has to believe me."
Aliya utters the last line loudly and tries to grope for the mobile lying on the passenger seat. For a nanosecond, her concentration shifts from the road ahead and a truck almost grazes past her car, honking loudly. The truck driver mouths an indecent abuse but doesn't stop his vehicle. Aliya instantly presses the brake, and the car comes to a halt with a jerk. With a pounding heart, she witnesses her mobile slip from the seat, disappear under it.
"Shit!"
She swears under her gritted mouth. It's better to reach home first and call Nandini. She decides and starts the engine. The rain has already increased its intensity. She glances at the rearview mirror. However, the rain lashes against the rear windshield is blurring her view. Otherwise, she would have noticed a car following her for quite a long time. Aliya makes her way home.

Manik steps into the room as quietly as possible. It's almost dawn. Making a negligible noise, Manik changes into a night suit and carefully slides himself inside the comforter, which is warm with Nandini's proximity. He takes a sigh of relief. However, his ease doesn't last for long.
"I know you didn't go for any extramarital affair because no sane girl can be with you for a long time. Then what made you do this night expedition, and that is so stealthily?"
Nandini's rigid voice makes Manik startled. Like a stupid person, he utters the non-relevant question,
"You are awake!"
In reply, Nandini takes a side turn and faces Manik.
"Not fully... But you can make me. Where have you been? Didn't you promise me not to take any kind of risk? Moreover, you left your mobile. Do you have any idea what my condition was? You are disgusting...just incorrigible..."
