Chapter 9 28/07/15
Today I woke up to my loud, deafening sound of my alarm. I quickly got dressed in something a bit nicer than my normal denim jeans and white baggy t-shirt. One the way out I grab my large camera bag with my tripods and all my lenses. I have so many, but thank god I get tax back on them because they are bloody expensive.
Once I got everything packed and ready I grabbed a sandwich for breakfast and one for lunch. I don't really like buying my lunch because it's so expensive, and there's no point when I can make the same thing at home. I also make a coffee with my machine. That's my one must well, when I can.
I grab all my gear and make my way out of the door. Thank God I looked up where it was or else I would be lost. The streets of London are full of workers walking to their jobs. I head down to the studio which is in the heart of London.
The studio is modern and has everything you could possibly need. It was a white floor studio with five large lights used for lighting the scene and a few smaller ones used for specific lighting. Today I'm shooting for Topshop and then a shoot on London streets for Burberry.
I begin to set up my gear. My laptop over on the side table. My camera connected to the laptop for instant pictures. I position the lights where I like them in most of my shoots. Other people also come in with racks of clothing and accessories. Other people bring in make up kits and hair stuff.
"Hey, Charlotte? Right?" I turn around at them mention of my name. I nod my head at the lady in front of me. "Hello." She sticks out her hand for me to shake. Who is this? "Oh I'm Mikaela James. I designed this collection."
"Oh sorry I couldn't recognize your voice." I smile politely and shake her hand.
"It's fine honey. Are you ready for the models to come in." I nod my head and she calls out to five girls to come over. I know I'm not that tall but these girls were like six foot. It was crazy. They're all tall, slender and have their bodies in perfect proportions. "Girls this will be your photographer today. Miss Charlotte Evens. She is running the shoot today so listen to what she wants and do it." The girls nod their head and individually introduce themselves and their names.
"Cool well let's get out the first outfit. I think It was the overalls?" I look over to Mikaela, who nods her head. "Yep. So Louise, go change into that. This shoot is a bit of a play on a childhood photo so we can have some fun with it." I clap my hands and everyone begins their jobs.
Louise, the first model comes out in a floral print, short, overalls with a bright pink long sleeve top underneath. The hairdressers have curled her long brown hair and a crown of spring flowers place on her head. It's a very basic look but very cute at the same time.
"That looks better than I thought it would." I smile and compliment Louise.
"Thanks Charlotte. What's my job" I nod my head and we both walk over to the camera. I have a row of flower pots place in front of the camera. The lighting is coming down as if to be the sun.
"So if you stand there," I point to the center of scene. "I want you to act very fun and light hearted. Pretend like this is a kids shoot. There's also a few props I'll get you to use later." Louise nods her head and walks into the scene. I first make sure all the lighting on my model is fine and outline where my frame is. Louise starts to move around in the scene. Not the traditional non emotional model shot. This was fun loving and carefree. Mikaela came and looked at my shoots and she seemed very impressed by the work. Not much needs to be fixed up which is really good.
We do a few more shoots with a toy puppy on a wire string as a lead and a paper balloon. Her photos came a perfectly. The next few girls were really good too. One of the shoots was a 'Vintage Hollywood' them. The model, Beatrice had a black, sequinned ball gown on and she would lay down on a antique day bed. It was a very successful shoot.
