"Do you know why you're here?"
The words weren't cold. They were careful. Like everything she said had been rehearsed, sharpened, and tested in boardrooms before I ever got to hear them.
I didn't answer.
Because I didn't know what she wanted me to say.
Sierra took a slow sip of wine — not for the taste. For the silence.
"You're here because Kim Namjoon made a phone call."
My throat tightened.
She didn't say it like it was generous. She said it like it was rare.
"Do you know how many people he could've called?" she went on, voice still calm, still measured.
"How many friends, producers, executives — even in the U.S. — who owe him favors, or want to?"
I stayed quiet.
"He called me. Said you had something. Didn't oversell it. Just said: If you're smart, you'll listen."
She didn't smile. Just let the sentence land like a stone.
"I respect him. I don't work for him — obviously — but I trust his instincts. And I've learned not to ignore them."
She set her glass down. Then folded her hands in her lap.
"So I cleared my schedule. Booked a room. And you walked in."
There was a shift in her posture. Just slightly back in her chair, as if getting more comfortable. Or more clinical.
"You know what really surprised me?" Sierra asked.
My stomach dropped before she even said it.
"Jungkook. Center of a global tour. One of the most famous faces on Earth. Just... appears in a back room of a casting studio. To watch one unsigned singer audition."
She didn't laugh.
She didn't sound impressed.
She sounded aware. Strategic. Unimpressed by fame, but extremely conscious of its gravity.
"You have to understand what that does. The moment he sat down? You weren't just a viral clip anymore. You became a story. A girl he flew across the country for. A girl Kim Namjoon personally vouched for. A girl worth a Google search. A headline. A headline with legs."
She looked at me fully now, level and unsentimental.
"I don't care if you're dating him. I don't care if it's real or fake or somewhere in between."
Beat.
"But I do care about how noise becomes narrative."
She leaned in slightly.
"You're not here because of him. Or because of Namjoon. You're here because when the doors opened, you didn't choke."
Then, softer. Sharper.
"But make no mistake — without them? This dinner wouldn't be happening. Not tonight. Maybe not ever."
I couldn't breathe.
Not because she was cruel.
But because she wasn't wrong.
"You've got a good voice," she said, flipping it like a business card.
"Better than good. And presence — I'll give you that. But this industry isn't about good. Good is forgettable."
I flinched.
