The table returned to be humming with small talk quickly— knives against porcelain, Jin asking for more water, Hobi laughing softly at something Tae said.
Normal noise.
Almost enough to disguise the shift in air.
Almost.
I could feel Emma watching me.
Every time Jungkook's thumb brushed over my hand under the table, every time I laughed — even quietly — I could feel Emma's smile twitch, the muscles in her jaw tightening like she was chewing glass.
Then came it — the faintest flash.
Soft. Quick. But not subtle.
I froze.
Her phone was angled against her wine glass, camera just high enough to catch Jungkook's hand in mine.
She didn't even hide it.
Her thumb moved again — one, two, three quick taps — her smile never faltering.
It was surgical.
Deliberate.
And she knew exactly what she was doing.
The light from her screen reflected in the stem of her glass, glinting cold and silver before vanishing again.
I opened my mouth — but Taehyung moved faster.
"Hey," he said, voice low. Controlled. Dangerous.
Emma blinked, feigning innocence.
"Yes?"
"Don't play dumb," Taehyung said.
"You know exactly what you're doing."
She blinked again, all wide eyes and fake surprise.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me," he said, standing now.
The calm in his tone was worse than yelling.
"Put the phone down."
Conversation died instantly.
Even the air seemed to go still.
"I was just texting—" she laughed.
"Texting?" Tae's eyebrow arched, sharp as a blade.
"Interesting. You text with flash photography now?"
Emma's fingers tightened around her phone.
"You're overreacting."
Namjoon's voice cut through the tension — low, authoritative, the kind of calm that meant trouble.
"Then show him."
Her head snapped toward him.
"Seriously?"
"Show. Him."
He didn't blink. Didn't raise his voice. Just stared.
The seconds stretched too long.
Finally, Jungkook reached out — hand steady, expression unreadable — and said quietly.
"Give me the phone."
Emma hesitated.
And that was all it took to confirm it.
Jungkook's jaw locked.
"Now."
For a second, she looked ready to fight.
Then she laughed — light, brittle, fake.
"Wow. You guys really think I'm that person?" she said, clutching the phone tighter.
"Eva, tell them this is ridiculous."
"Emma," Jungkook said quietly.
"Give me the phone."
