Feurige screamed and started hoping around like his back was on fire.
Well, it was.
Two huge wings had sprouted from his back. And it looked like his fur was on fire.
Ipa was staring at hers. They didn't move, in fact they seemed slightly transparent. After a few second they disappeared completely.
"What was that?" Breathed Feurige.
Kennon glanced around with his ears back. "I- I don't know."
"You looked like the Great Beasts." Announced Annabeth, stepping out from where the two had been watching us secretly.
"I bet you anything it's a fore warning." Announced Jay.
I gave him a blank look, not that he noticed.
"Come on, it's obvious. When the four have reached their fourteenth year? How old are you Feurige?"
"Thirteen winters."
My eyes widened as I grasped the situation.
"You really are one of the four." I said too both of them.
Ipa downloaded the contents of my mind. I could tell because she was staring at me intently.
"I thinks it's best if me and Feurige take a walk." She nodded at me.
I gave her my approval. It felt good to lead, it felt right. Maybe being the next chief wouldn't be bad at all.

The shaggy red wold padded sulkily in front of me. He didn't like this, he hated having his destiny written out for him.
"You have power." I started.
"Yeah, and I'm too much of a coward to use it." He growled at himself.
I was quiet for a few seconds. I had to motivate him, but it might require opening up slightly. Which was something I hadn't done since I left my herd.
"You noticed didn't you?" I asked. "Cervus don't travel alone, I could feel your surprise."
He shrugged. "Yes."
"The reason I left is because nobody would listen to me, I mean really listen. I was exceptionally bright for my age, but it seemed the entire herd had clouds in their brain." I said.
He snorted. "Aren't you all smart?"
I shook my head back and forth. "Smart enough to hold conversation, honestly there is not much of a difference between us and regular deer, the eating kind."
"What does this have to do with me?" He asked suspiciously.
"Something happened when we came in contact with Western Magyk, I think you felt it too." I announced.
He stiffened, coldness was washing out from his fur. He had sensed something. I continued uncomfortably as well
"A long time ago, I met a black wolf. I was so young. I didn't know anything, me and my friend were playing by the edge of our grazing grounds. He said he brought with him Magyk, being the foolish fawn I was, we listened to him."
I took a breath, this is where it got morbid. "It was Western Magyk, the kind that came from our ancestors, our past lives. It was the kind of Magyk that connected me directly back to Sero. I couldn't control it, and other deer got hurt. It was only after years of meditation and an oath never to use it again I finally managed to keep it under control. I saw something just now, and you did too."
He was silent for a few seconds. "I think I set the fire that killed my parents. I guess I always suspected, but now, after these strange claws come with their prophecies..."
I didn't answer. These times were best left silent.
"And there's more, I remember seeing a black wolf afterwords."
'Tenebris," I agreed, solemnly.
"Why do we have these powers if all they can do is cause pain?" He whined.
"We just have to learn to control it, I'll help you practice." I breathed, happy that we had come to terms.
"How?"
"You just have to concentrate, watch this." I breathed out, and let down my guard."
Immediately, the pebbles on the ground started to shake, then they fell apart to a fine dust.
"That's about it." I shrugged.
"Okay, how did you do that?"
"Try it first, it's hard to explain." I told him stepping away.
"Okay."
He shut his eyes,, and I watched half amused as the grass around him started to smoke.
Then without warning, his entire coat burst into flames. He didn't seem to fell it, and the flames didn't start a forest fire thank goodness.
"Feurige, whatever you do, don't open your eyes." I warned softly.
"Why?" He questioned, worried.
"Just don't."
He whined, confused, but didn't open his eyes. And his fur sizzled to a stop, not a single hair was singed.
"Amazing!" I marveled.
"What? Can I open my eyes?"
"You just lit yourself on fire!"
His eyes shot open. "I did?" Then, seeing he was extinguished, calmed down.
"Yeah, did you feel any different?"
He tilted his head. "Just warm, I didn't realize how cold the air is till just now."
He grinned. "Did I seriously?"
"Yeah, see I told you this wouldn't be so bad."
We celebrated for a few moments before his smile fell. "Oh no."
"What?" I asked, scared by the tone in his voice.
"If our powers are this hard to control, what happens when we turn fourteen?"
I frowned. "I... don't know."
"There's something else I forgot to tell Zach." He shivered.
"My birthday is in three days."
"So is mine."
