Shivani
Breaking myself from Karthik's embrace, I squinted into the dim light and saw Manoj Uncle running toward us, his face pale and eyes wide with shock. His usual calm demeanour was replaced with a wild, almost frantic energy that made my blood boil all over again.
"Karthik... thank God you're here!" he exclaimed, panting heavily. "I was just... just helping Shivani from the kidnappers. Now that you're here, everything will be fine. Let me just catch my breath, and I'll tell you everything later, okay?"
"Oh, Manoj Uncle, you can stop your acting now," I said sharply, stepping forward and crossing my arms. "Everybody here knows the truth."
"What nonsense are you saying, Shivani? Don't listen to her, Karthik," Manoj Uncle said, his voice rising slightly as he moved closer, trying to regain control of the situation.
"Oh, how, uncle," I said, my voice hard and unyielding. "You can stop your drama right now. Everybody knows what you've been hiding. Enough, uncle. Enough is enough."
"What drama? I... I guess you hit your head or something. Kar, don't listen to her, she's blabbering nonsense," he stammered, his confident mask beginning to crack.
I stepped closer, my gaze unwavering. "Oh, just cut the crap, uncle. They all know. We know that you were the one who tried to kill Karthik and kidnapped me, just so you could get your hands on Varma Industries all to yourself."
For a moment, his eyes went wide, disbelief etched across his features. "What?! Stop blabbering nonsense! You've hit your head, girl. This is ridiculous."
Karthik, who had been standing quietly behind me, his jaw tight, finally moved forward. His eyes blazed with fury, a mix of betrayal and anger radiating off him. In a swift motion, he slapped Manoj Uncle across the cheek, the sound echoing sharply through the room.
"You ungrateful idiot!" Karthik roared. "How could you do that? How could you betray us like this?"
Manoj Uncle staggered back slightly, his hand rubbing the spot where Karthik had struck him, but he tried to maintain his composure. "Stop it! I wouldn't have believed Shivani if I hadn't heard it myself! Just for money... you decided to kill your nephew and his girlfriend. If you had just asked me, I would have given it to you. We don't need the money, or the business. I... I..."
"Gosh, uncle," I interrupted, my voice shaking with a mix of anger and disgust. "I feel so ashamed to even call you that. A man who claimed to care about us, to care about your own family, and yet you plotted to destroy your nephew's life for your selfish gain. Bharat, just take him away."
"That's not possible!" Manoj Uncle shouted, his voice trembling, trying to assert authority despite the crumbling façade. "You can't arrest a person without proof! What proof do you have against me?"
I straightened, my chin high, and met his gaze directly. "Uncle, you think you're so smart, don't you? The smartest people make the smallest mistakes, and you... you made a very big one."
With deliberate motion, I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone, holding it up so that everyone in the room could see. "This phone," I said, my voice calm but firm, "contains all the proof we need. This phone belonged to the man you hired to kidnap me. You remember how I ran after that guy after escaping, right? Well, before I confronted him, I called Bharat. He told me to keep the phone on speaker and in my pocket so he could record your confession. And now, uncle... your game is over."
Manoj Uncle's face went pale, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. He tried to stammer, to say something, but no words came out. The anger and shock in his eyes were mixed with a dawning realization—he had been outsmarted.
Bharat and a few officers quickly moved in, grabbing Manoj Uncle and dragging him away from us. He struggled, screaming and yelling, but it was futile. His empire of lies, his carefully orchestrated plans, had collapsed in a single moment. The sound of his furious shouts faded as he was led out of sight, leaving only a tense silence behind.
I turned to Karthik, my chest heaving, my legs still trembling from the adrenaline of the confrontation. He enveloped me in his arms again, holding me so tightly that I could feel the strength of his relief, his protectiveness, and his love. "Damn, girl," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "I am so proud of you. You did it. You exposed him. You stopped him. I... I don't even know what to say."
I laughed softly, tears of relief and joy threatening to fall. "I just... I couldn't let him get away with it. Not after everything he's done. Not after everything he tried to do to hurt you and to hurt us."
Karthik pressed his forehead to mine, his warm breath brushing my skin. "You are incredible, Shivani. Absolutely incredible. I can't believe how brave you were. I... I've never been prouder, or more in awe of anyone, than I am of you right now."
I felt a blush rise to my cheeks, but the warmth in his eyes, the intensity of his gaze, made me feel safe, loved, and cherished all at once. "I couldn't have done it without knowing you were out there, Karthik," I whispered. "Knowing you were safe gave me the strength. I couldn't let anyone hurt you... or us."
He smiled, a rare, tender smile that made my heart flutter. "You're not just brave, Shivani. You're my partner. My everything. And from now on, I promise you, I won't let anyone, not even the shadows of the past, come between us. You and me... we'll face everything together. Always."
I leaned into him, wrapping my arms around his neck, letting myself be fully absorbed in the moment. It was overwhelming—the relief, the love, the sheer intensity of emotions crashing down on me. All the fear, all the worry, all the suspense that had gripped my mind over the past days melted away in the safety of his embrace.
Bharat gave us a small nod from the side, silently acknowledging the triumph of the situation, but his watchful eyes reminded me that the world outside might still hold challenges. Yet, at that moment, none of it mattered. I was here, safe. Karthik was here, holding me, and the betrayal of Manoj Uncle had finally been revealed.
I pressed my face against his chest, letting out a shaky sigh. "I thought... I thought I was going to lose everything," I admitted. "I thought I'd lose you, and I... I don't know what I would have done."
"You won't ever lose me, Shivani," he whispered, holding me tighter. "I'll always find you. Always protect you. You're mine. And nothing—no one—will ever change that."
For the first time in what felt like an eternity, I felt a sense of peace. A flicker of hope. A deep, unwavering certainty that no matter what challenges lay ahead, we would face them together. Manoj Uncle's betrayal had been revealed, justice was being served, and the bond between Karthik and me had only grown stronger.
I smiled, a genuine, heartfelt smile, and whispered into his chest, "I'm so proud of us, Kar. We did it. Together."
He chuckled softly, brushing a strand of hair from my face. "Yes, Shivani. Together. And this... this is just the beginning."
As we stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, the chaos of the past days, the danger, and the fear seemed to dissolve. In that moment, all that mattered was the love, trust, and unbreakable bond we shared. And I knew, no matter what came next, we would face it side by side, stronger than ever.
