Shivani

The soft glow of the terrace lights kissed the edges of the balcony as I stepped out, the cool night air wrapping around me like a comforting embrace. Karthik was already there, leaning casually against the railing, his gaze lost somewhere in the horizon. I could hear the faint hum of the city below, but up here, it felt like the world had shrunk to just the two of us.

"Karthik," I called softly, approaching him, trying not to startle him.

He turned immediately, his face lighting up in that way that always made my heart skip. "Shivani," he said, his voice low and warm. "I thought you'd be tired after today's chaos. You look... perfect."

I felt a blush rise to my cheeks. "Perfectly exhausted, maybe," I teased, but there was a softness in my eyes that mirrored his warmth.

He stepped closer, closing the distance between us, and wrapped his arms around me in a gentle hug. "You always do so much... you know that?" he murmured into my hair. "For me, for everyone. I don't think I'll ever stop being amazed by you."

I pressed my forehead against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. "And I'll never stop being amazed by you either," I whispered. "Even after everything, you're still the same Karthik... my Karthik."

He chuckled softly and lifted my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze. "And you, Shivani, are still the most stubborn, fearless, beautiful woman I've ever met. You made sure I had the best birthday surprise ever today. Honestly... you and DD made me feel like the luckiest man alive."

I smiled, a warmth spreading through me at the sincerity in his eyes. "I just wanted you to feel how much you're loved... how much you're appreciated. You deserve all the happiness, Karthik."

He reached for my hand, lacing his fingers with mine, and I felt the familiar tingle that always seemed to start at my fingertips and travel straight to my heart. "Shivani, you don't just give me happiness... you are my happiness. You've been my anchor, my home, my light... and I can't imagine a single day without you."

I felt my eyes water—not from sadness, but from a tidal wave of emotion that had been quietly building all year. I squeezed his hand back, my voice trembling slightly. "Karthik... I feel the same way. You've been my strength, my laughter, my everything. I don't know what I would do without you."

He pulled me closer into a long, lingering hug, and the world outside ceased to exist. For a moment, it was just the two of us, our breaths mingling, hearts beating in sync.

"You know," he said softly, pulling back just enough to look into my eyes, "I have another surprise for you."

I raised an eyebrow, curiosity sparking. "Oh? Another one? After today, I don't know if I can handle more surprises."

He grinned mischievously and reached behind him, pulling out a small, velvet box. My heart skipped as I recognized the familiar shape. "Karthik..."

"Open it," he whispered, kneeling slightly, his eyes never leaving mine.

I lifted the lid to reveal a delicate bracelet, the kind with tiny charms—each one representing a memory, a milestone, a private joke we shared over the past year. My breath caught, tears brimming again.

"Karthik... this is... perfect," I said, my voice breaking. "I can't believe you... how did you—"

"I wanted you to have something that always reminds you... of us, of everything we've been through, and everything we're yet to do. I wanted you to have a piece of my heart with you, wherever you go," he said, taking my hand and gently fastening the bracelet around my wrist.

I looked down at the charms and smiled through my tears. "I'll never take it off."

He lifted my hand, pressing his lips to it tenderly. "And I'll never stop trying to make you feel as loved as you make me feel every day."

For a long moment, we simply stood there, hands intertwined, hearts silently speaking the words our lips hadn't said. The city's lights twinkled below, but the only light I needed was in Kartik's eyes.

Then he whispered, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear, "Do you remember the first time I held you like this?"

I nodded, laughing softly. "How could I forget? You were so nervous, and I had to calm you down."

"Well..." he said, his voice dropping to a low murmur, "I've been waiting for all the moments after that. Every quiet night, every smile, every touch... I've wanted them all to be ours. And tonight, I just want to stay here... with you... and let everything else fade away."

I rested my head against his chest again, listening to his heartbeat, feeling the weight of his arms around me. "Then let's stay like this," I whispered. "Just you and me. No cameras, no shows, no world outside. Just us."

He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to the top of my head. "Just us," he agreed.

We stood there for what felt like hours, talking in hushed tones about everything and nothing, laughing quietly about moments from the show, sharing little secrets and dreams for the future. Every word, every glance, every touch deepened the bond we'd spent a lifetime building in just a year.

Finally, as the moon climbed higher, he held me tighter and said, "Shivani... I don't need grand gestures or surprises. You, this moment, us... it's everything I ever wanted. You're my home."

I looked up at him, eyes shining. "And you're mine, Karthik. Always have been, always will be."

We kissed then—slowly, tenderly, sealing all our unspoken promises with a gentle brush of lips, a touch that spoke of love, trust, and unbreakable connection.

That night, under the quiet sky, wrapped in each other's arms, we didn't need the world. We didn't need recognition or fame or even a birthday cake. There was only us, only love, only the certainty that whatever storms came, we would face them together, hand in hand, hearts forever entwined.

And in that moment, I realized that all the chaos, all the danger, and all the drama of the past year had only brought us closer. Because when it mattered the most, we had each other. And that was enough.
