*Althea's POV*
I tapped my pencil against my desk, trying to decipher the words floating around on my paper, twisting and merging together. Once the bell rung, I began to pack up and rush out of the school. I tried to rush to my small home so I could avoid the teasing.
"Well, well, if it isn't Dyslexia." One of the bullies said, catching me off guard. Now that I think about it, that nickname is really stupid. I mean, all they do is bully people, shouldn't they be able to think of better insults. Sure, I do have dyslexia, but that doesn't mean I'm not smart.
I turned around to face the bullies. "Hello. It's considerate of you to notice that I'm dyslexic, but I don't quite think of it as an insult. I would also like to point out that you could've came up with a better nickname. All you do is tease people, so you should be able to spend more time thinking of insults." I said with a smug smile on my face. The girl sneered at me. "Oh stop acting so smart. Everyone knows you're the dumbest kid at school."
"It seems to me that you are the dumb ones." I said, glancing around the group standing in a half circle around me. "All of you make fun of people for pretty much no reason as a way to get your anger out. Which, if I may point out, is a stupid way to do so." I turned around, leaving the bullies behind me dumbstruck, and continued on my way home."Woah! That was awesome, Although!" My best friend Kayleigh said walking up beside me.
"All in a day's work, Kay." I said, turning to her and giving her a smile.
"Since I'm already going towards your house, can I sleep over?" She said, braiding a piece of her caramel hair out of her face.
"Why not?" I said opening the door of my house. "Just let me ask my dad."
"Hey, Dad?" I asked as I walked into my father's study.
"Yes, Althea?" He said, turning around in his chair.
"Can Kayleigh stay the night?""As long as it's okay with her foster mom." He said with a smile.
"She's fine with it. I just texted her." Kayleigh said, holding up her phone.
"Alright. I'll order you two some pizza later."
"Thanks, dad!" I said as Kayleigh said, "Thank you, sir."
We both walked into my room. We threw our backpacks into the corner and flopped onto my bed in unison then started to laugh.
After dinner me and Kayleigh had changed into our pajamas and decided to watch The Lion King.I put the disc into the DVD player then sat down next to Kayleigh. "Why did you chose this movie. You cry every time." I said.
"Because everyone needs a good cry every once and a while." Was her reply. I rolled my eyes.
She still had tears in her eyes after the movie had ended. "Awwwww. Poor baby. " I said with a fake pout.
"Shut up." She said, putting another movie on.
After a few movies we had both fallen asleep.
A few minutes after falling asleep a nightmare came."Hello." Said a deep voice.
I looked around, but there wasn't that much to see. It was pretty much just a black void.
"I bet you are wondering why I brought you here." The voice said.
'Noooooo. I'm totally not wondering why some random voice that I've never heard before brought my dream self to a black void while I'm trying to get a good nights sleep. This happens all the time.' I thought sarcastically.
"Wake up." I heard a faint voice say."Ah, you should get going." The voice said.
I shot awake, covered in sweat.
"Get dressed! Hurry!" Kayleigh said.
I stumbled out of bed and onto my feet, quickly getting dressed. I nearly ran out of the room, then realized I could barely see. I quickly put my glasses on and ran to catch up with Kayleigh, who was in the living room.My dad was pacing back and forth, running his hands through his hair. A sign that I recognized as one of stress.
"Okay, we need to leave. Now." Kayleigh said.
"What?! Why?!" I said, a bit distressed.
"I'll explain on the way." Kayleigh said.I slid into the backseat of my dad's car, as Kayleigh was in the front. Just as my father had started driving, I heard a loud growl behind me. I turned to see a huge humanoid creature with one eye.
I screamed. "Is that a Cyclopes!" I asked.
"Yes, yes it is." Kayleigh said."Question: How are you so calm!?"
"Answer: I've done this for three years." She replied.
"Well, this day is going swell isn't it." I said."Explanation: You, miss Althea, are a demigod. Half-human, half-God."
"Okay, I'm calm. I'm calm." I said, taking deep breaths.
My dad stopped the car. "Go, Go, Go!" He said.
Me and Kayleigh ran up to an arch.
"Good luck!" I heard my dad yell.
