AL's POV
•••••
"Brother, what was it that happened between you and (y/n)?" I was curious as to why she had left so quickly. Had brother been rude? Had he been impulsive? This was often the case with him, and I was hoping it wouldn't be the case now. (y/n) and Roxy seemed to be good people, I had no intention of scaring them off.
"Oh... yeah, Al, so about that...."
"Did you do something stupid, brother?" "What?! No! In a sense, no.."
"Brother, what happened?" I was starting to get a bit worried. "Well..." Edward sighed. "So I was talking with (y/n), and then suddenly she just stopped midword. She ran off towards the bathroom and told me not to follow her, but... I kind of did..." "BROTHER!"
"No! That's not what happened! She locked the door behind her, and all I heard was retching. When she opened the door, she was a bit shocked to see me, I felt kind of guilty to be honest-"
"Well good for you! You're supposed to feel guilty!" "No, but then listen to what happened! She had to throw up again, and she didn't close the door, so I saw... I saw that she was vomiting blood." I gasped. "But why?" "That's what I asked her. She tried to veer off subject at first, but then she revealed that she and Roxy had done the same as us." "Did you-did you ever find out who...?" "Yeah. Roxy's uncle, apparently." "They must've been close."
Ed was silent for one second.
Five.
"Yeah... they probably were.." Resume the awkward silence.
Ten seconds.
Fifteen.
"Al... there's-there's something I've been meaning to tell you... I've been trying to spit it out for a while, but I'm afraid of what your reaction may be..."
"What is it, nii-san?"
Insert more silence.
"Nah, it's nothing important. Goodnight.." "Goodnight, brother." I said, both curious and depressed by his statement.

Two hours had passed, and I was feeling lonely. Then I heard noises coming from (y/n)'s room. As quietly as I could, considering I was a suit of armor. I peeked through the crack in (y/n)'s slightly open door and see that she's taking out a few books. "(y/n), why aren't you asleep?" I said, making (y/n) jump. "Insomnia," she said, a wry smile on her face, "it attacks when you least expect it." I was confused. "What's this insomnia thing? Is it dangerous?" I asked worriedly. "No, not at the level I have it, which is basically almost never, but it could hit me any day. It's a condition some people have. Remember those sleepless nights you used to have in a human body? An insomniac has those nights regularly, for so long it becomes a condition. I've gotten much better, but it still hits me from time to time." "Oh. Then what are you doing now?" I asked, curious. "Oh! I was just deciding what I should read until I fall asleep. You know, to pass the time." "What books are tho- wait. How-how do you.... know??!!" "I kind of figured when you hit the table by accident, I mean, you sounded pretty hollow, and when Ed told me you two ifailed at the taboo, my suspicions were confirmed." "Oh, ok." "What were you asking me again, Alphonse?" "I was asking ... what books do you have?" "Ooh! Maybe you can help me choose! Mmkay, so we have here The Hunger Games, we have Tokyo Ghoul, there's a book on Indian Folklore and then there's I Am the Messenger. Which appeals to you the most?" "Hmm... Indian Folklore sounds good!" "Great! Let's start."

"The prologue's really... long. I like it though." "Yeah, me too! It's really informative." We finally reached the first page, the tale was called 'Tell it to the Walls'. "Wanna do the honors, Al?" "Sure!"

As we read, we learned the story was about a poor widow being ridiculed by her two sons and her wives, which lived with her for unknown reasons. In her sadness, the woman got fatter and fatter (a/n: this is actually the real original myth, ok? Please don't take this the wrong way, it's all symbolic! [I think...😂idk my figurative language terms yay]), which her familu found as another matter to taunt her about. One day, everyone was out of the house, so the widow decides to go out. In her deppression, she doesn't realize she's taken herself out of town until she stops. In front of her, the widow sees a dilapidated house with no roof, only four walls. Walking over to the middle of these ruins, the lady finds she can no longer hold in her despair. She faces one wall and rants about how her first son always insults and hurts his own mother, and under the weight of her problems, the wall fell, and the widow felt lighter. So she went to the next wall and went on about her first son's wife. This wall also fell. The poor woman went on like this, until in the end, all four walls were down, unable to withstand her emotional baggage. Only then did the widow leave and go back, feeling lighter both physically and emotionally.

"Reminds me of nii-san. The widow, I mean. He has so much emotional baggage." "It reminds me of you too, Al. I mean, you've gone through the same things as Ed, haven't you, Al? Yet you remain so polite and sensible, I honestly admire you. Your brother may be the famous one, but you deserve some credit too." I was honestly taken aback at this. No one had ever acknowledged him in that way. Maybe (y/n) truly was a good person. "Really? Thanks... (y/n).." "No problem!" We kept on reading for a while, and I spoke: "You and Roxy seem close. When did you two meet?" (Y/n) laughed a bit and said "I met her when I was eleven years old, on the train to get to the boarding school. It was pretty awkward, I mean, I just got shoved into the seat beside her by all the people suddenly stampeding onto the train!" "That's pretty awkward!" I said, chuckling a bit. Then I saw the cover for the book Tokyo Ghoul, which caught my eye. The image was that of a guy with one regular eye and one dark-ish strange eye, all in black and white. "Hey, what's Tokyo Ghoul about?" "Oh! It's a pretty tragedic/horrific kind of thing. It's set in a world similar to ours, except that there are ghouls, who look like humans, but they NEED to eat humans, whether they want to or not, if they eat anything else they get sick. There are ghouls who don't have it in them to kill, so they feed on suicide victims, but there are ghouls who are 'binge eaters', who kill for fun. It's basically the struggle of the main character, Kaneki Ken, who becomes half ghoul after an accident." "Wow, that sounds... harsh." "Yeah. Wanna read it?" "... Alright!" I said, curiosity winning over my apprehension. So (y/n) and I started reading in comfortable silence.

After about an hour, (y/n) yawns. "You should go to sleep, (y/n)." She remains silent for a while, thinking.
"... I guess... But this book is too interesting!" "There's always tomorrow." "..But.. ugh, you're right. Night."
"Night."
And I spent the rest of the night absorbed in (y/n)'s copies of Tokyo Ghoul.
