*Three Weeks Later*

*Maysen's POV*

It had been three weeks since the attack and my ceremony to become the rightful Alpha of the Moonbeam pack. Our tiny pack has been repairing the damages slowly, waiting for supplies from our allies along with a few more hands to help. I cook breakfast for everyone in the morning, lunch in the afternoon, and dinner at night, teach school for our three little ones who survived, and still manage to run the pack.

My wolf has been restless recently, knowing that our 18th birthday was only 3 days away. I keep trying to reason with her that our mate has perished, even stating that we saw it and held him while he died, but she is completely against the idea. My mother always told me that my wolf is wisest, but I am the one in control, so I must choose the right thing. I feel pangs our guilt all day for it had been nearly a month since I had last let my wolf out for a run. She seems to understand though, knowing that our pack comes before our wishes always.

Now it's around noon, the rainy July day making my wolf even more restless and pushy, desperate to get out and go play in the rain. Staring out the window from my office, I sigh loudly, rubbing my face tiredly. I had been in here since yesterday morning, trying to figure out how to repay the other packs for aiding us in this time of need; we have no money, we have no resources, nothing. A soft knock comes from the door and I sit up a bit straighter.

"Come in." I speak smoothly.

Ned, the Doctor's son, pushes the heavy door open with all of his strength.  He beams at me as I applaud him, moving from my desk to kneel in front of him.

"I believe that you're stronger than me now." I laugh softly, his eyes lighting up.

"No, Alpha, you're much stronger than I am!" he giggles, smoothing down my hair.

"Now, Ned, what have you come here for? Shouldn't you be doing homework and chores?" I frown slightly, thinking that he may have slacked off to come see me.

"No, Ma'am, I've finished everything and Daddy says you need a break so he said I could ask you a question." his little chest puffs out and he shifts to stand taller, making a ghost of a smile grace my face.

"Well ask away then."

"Do you remember when we would go for runs in the rain and I would ride on Jessee's back? We would play in the mud and have so much fun! Well," he looks down bashfully, "It's raining right now and I thought we could all go for a run together!"

I stare at him as he looks up to meet my gaze, smiling sweetly, his two front teeth missing. My heart aches as I recall all the times we had go out for a run in the mud along the border, at how happy everyone was. Even Alpha John would join us when he was flustered with work and it seemed like he always had the most fun.

"I think, Ned, that it's a fantastic idea." he squeals in excitement as I pick him up, settling him on my shoulders.

Sprinting from the room, I run to everyone's doors, knocking ferociously, explaining what to do, and moving to the next door. Since the attack, I advised everyone to move into the pack house, saying that it would be best if we lived under the same roof so no one would feel separated from me, but in reality, I just couldn't handle staying here alone. Ned sits atop my shoulders, grinning in excitement and shaking with pent up energy.
