parents day

Parents day, the one time you really do not want to see your family. Right in the middle of the year Nevermore always had a day when families could visit their children, even if that means the child has to see their family. Especially when they have a family like yours. Consistently on your ass about grades and your social life is only what they approve of, the lack of social expression was slowly driving you insane. Constantly begging for their approval for a new friend and getting turned down in fear of your grades suffering from a new connection.

if only principle Weems understood that not everyone should be welcome at nevermore. The clash of cultures was hitting you like whiplash, any understanding each clique had with  one another seems to vanish as soon as the parents show up. Vicious comments and snide remarks made about out of bounds friendships was all you could hear. Your parents going on about blood purity and how important straight A*'s were for a 'future'they wanted from you. They had every report given to them lined up in front of you on the table. "this isn't good enough y/n" your mother sneers. "this is not why we sent you to boarding school!" she continues, scoffing under her breathe at the warm welcomes other parents were giving their children.

your father wasn't much better "y/n what the hells do you think you call that. its barely a passing grade, gods why did we raise such a disenchanting child" he spat, looking directly at the report cards "why couldn't you be more like your sister? you know y/n we didn't have to make you. we are the reason you are alive, you could at least be grateful of that you vile child."

the report card he was so unhappy about held 5 A* but a singular B-. it was in music, you had always struggled in the arts ever since you were young.

Someone was watching, eyes bore into the back of your parents heads. if looks could catch flame to someone, they would be on fire as soon as they started talking like that. it could only mean one thing. that Kent was watching again. the boy aways was, especially when someone was talking to you. he knew how your brain worked, always expecting the best from people and never anticipating for what they could do to you. it was something you had grown accustomed to doing since it was those people whom Kent didn't like that your parents were most likely to approve of. they kept you compliant, vulnerable, insecure. your 'best friend' was the worst for it. you had known each other since you were children, both your fathers knew each other and had similar ideologies.

you felt a brush against you shoulder, the familiar comforting touch rested next to your neck. you didn't flinch away like your parents were silently hoping you would to the touch of what the supposed was an unfamiliar boy. the scowl on your mother's face when she realised it wasn't the reaction they were anticipating. your body stopped the subtle shaking it had been doing to regulate and calmed still. he didn't need to talk, he never needed to talk, everyone was cautious around him. nobody knew why he had chosen you to attach to, nobody ever knew why he did anything for you.

you could practically hear the eye roll from Addie, earning a small smirk from your mother. Addie to them was the girl whom could do no wrong, keeping their child in their views when they couldn't be there themselves regardless of what she would do to you behind their backs. it was never truly behind their backs, they always had an idea she was doing something to you. they let her. just because it made you compliant and easier for them to watch.

"She doesn't need to be babied Kent, it's just pathetic" Her voice was laced with what you think sounds like jealousy but was wavering slightly. Addie moved, shuffling tighter towards your parents. it was like she expected them to protect her, and they did.

"who are you, unhand my daughter" your father started getting up out of his chair, "you have no right to just come into this conversation like you have a place" his smirk was replaced with a frown. your mother pulled him back into his chair without a word unwilling to make a scene.

" y/n why don't you go get some food, surely you're hungry" Kent diverted the conversation, angling it towards him rather than you. he slightly pushed you towards the table of food across the courtyard, keeping a hand on your back until your parents were out of sight.

he pulls you into a tight hold, forcing your head to rest just under his chin. muffling every attempt you gave at trying to speak, silencing you with what felt like a petting motion on your hair. you settled down eventually, stopping what little resistance you gave in the first place and melted into him. the petting continued until the world felt still and stopped the violent motions inside your mind.

At the table your parents realised you were not going to come back. removed from their grasps by a long haired teenage siren. no less a boy. the one thing they swore to keep away from you had taken you away from them and their words. your parents turned to leave, only to be met by the headmistress. "Mr and Mrs y/l/n" she started, eyes flickering between them "due to your unacceptable display you are no longer permitted to be on nevermore property ever again. y/n is to stay here and the authorities have been notified of suspected manipulation of a vulnerable child."
