I knew that sometime today I was bound to get a detention. I didn't however know it wouldn't be until the last period of the day. That's like a record for me.

"Mr. Ramirez, I will not tolerate any of your vulgar behavior, just like I didn't tolerate it with your brother. You can learn this lesson after class, in detention!" Mr. Wilson, the AP English teacher, seethed from where he stood behind his desk. He was furiously scribbling on the pink detention slip, and took long strides to reach my desk in the back of the classroom.

I gave one of my signature smirks just to spite Mr. Wilson, but to my surprise he returned one of his own.

"You will soon find, that I am not a teacher who is afraid of you. I didn't let your brother push me around, and I definitely won't let you either. Now if you continue your behavior, I will make sure it goes on your permeant record, and I know deep down you don't want that." He spoke quietly, but I heard his words loud and clear.

I didn't respond to his little speech, and he seemed rather pleased by my lack of words, as he returned to his desk, and continued explaining the syllabus. I quickly found myself zoning out like I usually did, and started thinking about Mr. Wilson's words.

Deep down, I didn't want anything on my permeant record. I didn't want all the detentions that were sure to show up when you pulled out my file.

I didn't want colleges to see anything in my file, but good grades.

It was a long shot for me to actually go to college, but I wanted to know I could get in. No one from my family expected me to stay in school long enough to even be a senior in high school. I just wanted to prove I could go if I wanted.

Well, if I had the money.

When the bell rang everyone gathered their things and left as soon as they could. I decided there was no use in leaving since in exactly five minutes I would be back in the same classroom, so I stayed seated.

"You comin' by after detention?" Mi mejor amigo, Nicolas, asked as he stopped at my desk.

"Yeah, unless mi mamá isn't home." I said drumming my pencil on the desk. Nic nodded his head and told me he'd see me later before Mr. Wilson kicked him out.

I decided I was going to make the best of this twenty-five minute detention, and laid my head down on the desk for a nap. When I was finally starting to drift into darkness, the sound of heels clicking disturbed the otherwise silent room.

I lifted my head just in time to see the long flowing blonde hair, of Savannah Jameson. I'm pretty sure my jaw hit the floor, at the sight of her in the detention room. The 'Golden Girl' doesn't get detention. Surely the chica was here to pick up extra credit or something. But my theories died when she took a seat two rows in front of me.

"Okay, now that everyone is here, I'll explain what you'll be doing, until the end of your twenty-five minutes are over." Mr. Wilson explained to the two of us. "I need the two of you to alphabetize the books, on the shelf over there I must've forgot to do it at the end of last year." I followed his gaze to the bookshelf that seemed to overflow with worn out books.

Savannah wasted no time and quickly went over to the shelf and began taking books out and placing them in neat piles on the ground. I however, took my time in walking to the shelf and haphazardly began throwing the books off the shelf.
