Chapter One
"Katie! Wake up!"
The sound of my fathers voice is not one that I look forward to at 5:00 in the morning. Ever since Delorah came he won't even look at me in the eyes. I thought she would be gone already. Normally my father can't have a steady relationship but with Delorah it's like she has him in a spell. They've been together for a year now and has only fought ONCE. Too much to think about right now. I rose from my Vera Bradley bet set and went to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror at my hair. It's a new, messy style everyday. A different strand of hair in a different place everyday. Kind of interesting.
After taking a luke warm shower to some what attempt to wake me up, I threw on some jeans and a tank. And we'll of course, undergarments. With my hair in a cute messy bun and my uggs I grabbed a Krave granola bar and headed out the door. Within seconds, my ride was here. No. Not a yellow school bus. A red mustang GT convertible with this time ( thankfully ) the top was down. I opened up the passenger door and my bestfriend, Austin Krayenfield greeted me with a smile and a "Hey".
I dropped my book bag on the floor and said "Hey, what's up?".
"Just listening to the weather forecast". He responded.
Okay so Austin is... Lets just say.. A goody toe shoes. Good grades, neat room and so on. We don't have alot in common but opposites attrack. And no, not like that. One thing we do have in common though is music and hating quiet and classic movies.. And NO musicals. Austin normally keeps to himself especially his musical talent. He's an excellent guitar player and piano player. Sometimes... When I can't sleep at night, ill call him and he plays a relaxing song till I fall a sleep. I hear him say something before the phone clicks off but I'm almost in a dead sleep so to me, it comes out barely as a mumble
"What's the update?". I finally asked, coming back to reality.
"Same as always in california. Hot. Which brings me to... Why the hell are you wearing jeans and uggs?".
"I have a big bruise from my mid-thigh to below my knee. It's nasty. Word of advice, don't use alot of conditioner....you'll slip and fall".
"Smoothe. And this bruise is on your foot too?".
Is he dumb? I just told him where it was.
"No". I grinned.
"What's your explanation on the uggs?". He smirked.
"Easy. They went good with the outfit". I giggled.
"Chicks". He nudged my elbow then changed the channel to 96.5 where Bruno Mars, "When I was your man", turned on the radio. I blared it loud and Austin laughed then put on his sunglasses. My hair was flying everywhere which made me look at Austin. His dark brown wavy but flippy hair kept getting in his gray-ish blue eyes. He looked, like Austin, my bestfriend. His eye lashes were black and long. And his tab muscley arms rested on the steering whell. He looked so calm and peaceful. If only I could feel that way.
"So how's Dee?". He asked.
Dee was short for Delorah. We couldn't stand to say her full name.
"Same as always. Clingy."
The rest of the car ride to school was quiet. Which is weird because we normally always have something to talk about.
