Everything began to slow down as I fell. My eyes wide open, my mouth agape; oh how I wished to scream my lungs out. The sound of the bottle making contact before myself; this is it.
He fell to the wood flooring of the new pier, blood ruining its fresh color. The redness of it forever stuck in my mind. He stared at me with wide, glassy eyes. My intoxication level refusing to let me take control. I'm furiously clawing away at the water, kicking with all that's left of me. It doesn't work; the water is all around me.
At last I register the cold truth of both our deaths. I'll be seeing you soon, Danny. Something decides to otherwise as strong arms are wrapped around my waist, heaving me towards the surface.
"C'mon! Shit, shit, shit! Please don't die too!"
Pathetic how one word hurt so much: too. I spew up the water caught in my throat, my sight too blurry for my own liking. Yet through it all, I see Danny with Vic above him, doing exactly as Kellin was; trying to save a life.
"Kellin," I choke out, "Kellin, please...I need to help him!" My voice cracks but I push it back.
Kellin gives me a look of pity and releases me. I crawled on my hands and knees to the piers' edge, where he lay unmoving.
"Danny! Goddess, please don't let him leave me!" I beg with all that's in me. He coughs up blood and gingerly grips my hand. I bring it to rest over my heart. Tears and pond water soak him as I do so.
"I'll never leave you." He takes in a ragged breath and points to my heart. "Always; i'll always...be here." Danny's eyes drifted to our clasped hands; and he let out one last breath.
Vic hugged me from behind as my life fell apart; nothing but worthless shit now.
