Chapter 3

I walked down the long corridors with Ed on one side and Al on the other, my hands behind my head. I was tired from training and working so hard recently, and I really needed some rest before I began my job. I stretched both my arms out, yawning.

"We're almost to the dorms." Said Ed his eyes glimmering. Al was being unusually quiet. He suddenly looked up at Ed his eyes shining brightly.

"We have to tell her, Edward!" The blonde boy quickly shook his head. I saw him mouth 'later' and I saw Al sigh and nod.

"What are you guys hiding from me?" I suddenly exploded, not being able to contain my anger any longer. "You've both been acting so strange! Al, get out of that stupid suit of armour! And Ed... Ed, why are you being so... So secretive? Why can't you guys just tell me? I hate you both! What really happened to Trisha, huh? Maybe you killed her, Edward. And your dad? Maybe he left because of that. Maybe he disowned you both. I could just assume that since neither of you will tell me anything!" I regretted everything I said as soon as the words came pouring out of my mouth. And with that I stormed into my dorm, slamming the door behind me. I sunk down against it, put my head in my hands, and cried.

Time skip- later that night~

I heard a soft knock on my door, and a small, weak voice call out.

"Y/n? Are you awake?" Edward. I needed to apologise.

"C-come in."

He gently opened the door, stepping inside. His eyes were red, and it looked like he may have been crying. His hair was loose, and he was wearing a sad smile. There it was again- the emptiness in his eyes that needed to be filled.

"Ed..." I whispered. "I'm so sorry." I ran over and grabbed his right hand in mine, looking directly into his eyes. "I should have never said those things. I feel awful..."

"No, it's okay." I felt his left arm tighten around my waist, and I fell into his embrace. I hadn't slept all night. "I'm sorry for being so secretive. But you have to understand that there are some things you just can't hear yet. Things you're not ready to hear." I shook my head.

"No, Ed!" I said, ripping his right glove off suddenly. "I'm ready to hear anything! I need to know what happened to you that hurt you so mu..." I trailed off as my e/c eyes stared at his right hand in confusion. It wasn't a normal hand. It looked... Metal. I took one step backwards, my eyes widening. "What's that...?" He smiled sadly before taking off his red coat. And then his shirt. I shook my head in disbelief. His entire arm was gone, and replaced with automail.

"Thats not all..." He rolled up his left trouser leg to reveal half of his leg missing. My pupils shrank into their sockets. There were scars everywhere, and his eyes looked even emptier. "I did something terrible, y/n. I'm the reason Al is in the armour. I'm the reason we don't have our bodies. I'm such an idiot and..." He sunk down to his knees putting his head in his hands. I ran and kneeled beside him grabbing him into a hug. Even though I was much smaller than he was, he felt limp. Lifeless. I nodded at him to carry on. I put my hands on his shoulders and smiled encouragingly.

"We... We committed the taboo. We tried human transmutation. I lost my arm and leg, and Al lost his entire body." He stood up and sighed, before turning to open the door. "I'll talk to you more in the morning about it okay? It's not only my story to tell." The door slammed behind him, leaving me alone. He didn't want to talk about it, and I could understand why. I would just not bring it up, and hopefully he'll do the same.

--time skip: morning--

I stood by the fountain in the middle of Central, waiting for Lily. She'd arranged to come down and see me, and I needed her more than ever. I felt a hand sling playfully around my neck as she faced me, a worried look on her face. I cringed, waiting for her response.

"Is he cute?"

"What?"

"Duh! Fullmetal. I said, is he cute?" I stared at her in shock, trying to figure out what exactly she was playing at.

"I thought you'd be angrier." I said, confused. "You sounded really angry on the phone..." She just laughed it off and gave me a quick hug, pulling back and grinning at me.

"Hey, I don't particularly support it but that doesn't mean I shouldn't help you out!" She explained, her smile getting wider. "So, answer my question Y/n!" I laughed at her, happy she wasn't angry. I should have realised she wouldn't be.

"Yeah, he really is." I said, grinning stupidly.

"Good, my best friend deserves only the best." She laughed sweetly and grinned. "When can I meet him?"

"Slow down there!" I giggled. "We only met about two days ago!" She just shrugged and nodded.

"Whatever!" She replied immediately. "I have to go now, but make sure you make some kind of move, Y/n. You've never been good with boys." I laughed this particular comment off and nodded awkwardly.

"I know I'm bad with boys, but he makes it so easy." I called after her as she walked away

"Aww!" She replied. "See you! Love ya!"

"Love you too!" I walked back towards the main building and went back into the room where Ed was sitting and reading some kind of alchemy book. He looked up and smiled at me.

"Oh, hey!" He said. He began to blush. "Listen... Al and I are taking a trip down to Resombool to see Winry and Pinako. Want to join us?" Memories flashed suddenly of how much Winry hated me, but I desperately wanted to see Pinako.

"Sure! Let's hope Winry doesn't kill me though." His smile widened.

"She tries to kill me every time I go." We both chuckled, knowing it was true. I smiled to myself. It was the perfect time for me to get closer to Ed.
