Chapter 3
Lucy's POV
I tripped over a gnarled root and fell face first into a large, burly bush. It's thorns pricked me from everywhere. Ripping through my pink dress, I lay there pinned to the ground by a tiny enemy. Struggling, I tried to rip myself out of the bush, only to be scratched across the arm by thousands of more thorns.
Before I could do anything else, foot-steps suddenly sounded behind me. I let out a shrill scream then in the back of my mind I had no idea what gave me the impression my scream would have threatened the predator that must have found me.
"Excuse me." came a clear, masculine voice.
"What are you doing in my property?"
"Your...property!" I managed to say, "This is Narnia land!"
"Narnian land under my name." said the voice.
I scoffed, but it came out more like a choke sound as I writhed under the tight grip of the thorn bush. The strange voice suddenly grew into view in front of me, to be a very handsome man. He plucked me out of the bush with ease and I lay on the ground panting.
Quickly, I got up and huffed. My anger rising, I was getting sick of men trying to win me over. This one was only different because he was not very well dressed. He wore an long-sleeved cotton shirt and brown, filthy trousers.
"Well, I guess I'll be on my way." I said in an uneasy voice.
"What? No...thank you?" he chuckled.
Turning, I gave him a glare.
"Not in the mood for whatever ill conceived idea you've gotten about it! Your not some night in shining armor who just saved me from a dragon or a hero who just conquered a mountain ogre for me! You pulled me out of a thorn bush and last I heard that didn't get put in a story book!"
"So....you're saying I should have left you there?" he asked, in a heavily amused tone.
"That's exactly what I'm saying." I snarled, beginning to walk away backwards so I could still hold his most annoying gaze. "In fact, if you ever see me about to be marooned on an island or burned at the stake or drown in a sea, I suggest you leave me there or---"
I didn't finish my sentence, for just when I was about to say something very nasty, I tripped backwards and fell into the lake in between the strange man, and the forest in Cair Paravel.
Knowing how to swim, I paddled upwards only to feel a thrashing around my legs as I kicked up the sandy bottom of the lake. My foot had gotten snagged in a root at the botton of the lake. Some shadows in the lake began to appear when this happened.
I started screeching, I knew what they were, piranhas. I looked up to see the man laughing.
"You sure you don't want my help?" he asked, with a stupid grin.
"Of course no--"
A piranha bit on my leg and I screamed.
The look on his face went from amusement to seriousness. He pulled out a wooden wand and flicked it at the water and a white light came out of the top. The piranhas froze where they where and I stopped screaming.
He dove in and untangled my leg, then came out of the cool, crisp water and helped me onto the shore. Slowly, he edged off a bit closer to a viney sort of fortress.
I examined my leg and saw ten pairs of teeth marks, embedded deeply into my skin. I could tell there where some teeth lodged in there and I felt my chest tighten.
