"Trust me, Agatha. That's all I ask."
Looking up at the massive screen on the wall of the Temple, pale eyes unfocused, she exhaled a breath into the humid air, a puff of steam coalescing as cool met warm.
She'd seen Danny climbing into his car.
The technician hadn't. Too concerned with caring for her. Too wrapped up in fantasy laced murmurings about what a good listener she was. Pie in the sky, considering that if Lamar Burgess had his way, she'd never see the outside world again. Left to rot in the Temple, bathed in heat and everlasting nightmares in the name of the Greater Good.
"Can you see?"
Blinking as Danny vanished from the screen, she whimpered as her mother's face appeared, bloated and pale, sinking to the depths of a lake, the faceless killer vanishing into the shadows.
'Dammit. Fucking echoes.'
Wide eyes on the image as the Tech waded from the pool, she shook her head, two whispered syllables slipping from her as she sank into the nutrient enriched water.
"Murder...."
