You cringe at the screams that are radiating from the small room at the end of the facility.

You can feel the tears stinging the back of your eyes as you look over at Steve.

He's walking toward you from down the hall "Steve, we've got to stop doing this. Bucky isn't going to last much longer."

You watch as he looks up with darkness in his eyes as he silently orders "Keep going. He can handle it."

You walk out of the building quickly, fighting the tears that were threatening to cascade over your lashes. Don't cry in front of him. Don't cry.

Once outside you take a large breath in, silently reminding yourself it's going to be okay.

Steve knows what he's doing.

Bucky is going to be fine.

Everything is going to be fine.

You shake your head slightly as you can only halfway believe the lies you were currently telling yourself.

Ever since the whole 'Hydra is really S.H.I.E.L.D.' or 'S.H.I.E.L.D. is really Hydra' fiasco Steve's #1 priority has been finding Bucky; he doesn't eat, he doesn't sleep, and he doesn't talk anymore.

Although you trust Steve with your life and you respect his authority as your commanding officer you couldn't help the pain in the pit your stomach that came with each of Bucky's screams.

You were a trained Avenger, sure your powers helped when one of your team members were passed out but you didn't sign up for torture sessions.

You knew that Steve was trying to salvage that little part of Bucky Barnes that was left, but he was taking it way too far.

Steve had been slowly loosing part of himself. He wasn't himself anymore. He didn't show compassion or understanding to anyone anymore.

But how do you tell Captain America, the true American hero, and your commanding officer that he was slowly losing his sanity? How do you tell him that you are worried about his health and Bucky's?

Sam had been gone for about a month, leaving you alone with Steve and Bucky; which didn't help much.

Sam Wilson had been a rock that you and Steve had been leaning on for the past two years. He had been the buffer between you and Steve.

You shake your head as you felt his chilling presence behind you. Your body immediately straightened and your heels came together, silently awaiting orders from your commanding officer.

Your chest shook as you held back your sobs, wincing when your voice cracked "Y-yes Sir?"

You closed your eyes as the familiar chill ran down your spine at Steve's cold and distant voice "(Y/N). You're needed, he's passed out again."

You shake your head as he silently turns away; you knew that this was going to end poorly for you, but you knew this needed to be done.

You square your shoulders as you turn facing his rapidly retreating form before saying strongly "No."
