Josh's POV
I was following the ambulance to the hospital. They got there fast. They rushed her off the truck and transferred her to a bed and rushed to do something. I don't even know what. I sat in the waiting room and well, waited. I made a group message to all the family. Then another to all of our friends and told them what happened. Everyone agreed that they didn't know what to say. They said they were worried. Mama B and Timothy came and waited with me. We didn't even say a word. Gwen was holding my hand and Tim's hand. We all kept looking at the clock and at the floor. I just kept remembering her laying there in the floor. I remember holding her cold hand. I didn't want to remember that picture. Finally. After waiting for 2 hours. They called us back. They said that she is stable and awake. I was relieved.
I walked back to her room following the doctor. Gwen and Tim were behind me. I slowly walked in. The room was gloomy and small. The walls were a grayish blue. There were two chairs with a table in the middle of them to the left when you walk in. To the right is the patient bed. Then there was enough to room beside the bed for the doctor to stand and everything you would need for the patient.
When Colleen saw me her face lit up.
"Josh!" She started to cry. "Josh I was so scared. Please don't leave my side for a long, long time."
"Don't worry fraggle." My eyes started to tear up. Mostly because of happiness. "You won't have to worry about that. I will protect you the best I can. If I was there, I would have taken the bullets for you. I would have taken 3 times as many bullets if that meant you would be safe." I said as I kissed her hard. A long, pleasant kiss.
Gwen and Timothy walked in, which broke the kiss. As they had their reunion, I got pulled out to the narrow hallway by a doctor. He had black hair. He was starting to go gray. He looked to be somewhere in the 40s. He was short with green eyes. He told me that they would keep her the rest of the day, over night, and half of the next day to see how she's doing.
He said he was keeping her because there is a chance of an embolism, which is when the shot could cause you lungs, heart, or both to fail. And the only way to stop her from dying is if someone treats her quickly.
That put another weight on me. There is a small chance that it will happen. And maybe a little bigger chance since she has 3 bullet holes. I stayed with her at the hospital no matter how tired I was. I wasn't going to leave her.
She's asleep now. I'm in the room now waiting for her to wake up. Soon, before I know it, I'm asleep too.
I awoke to a sound. It took me a minute to realize what it was. It was Colleen's heart monitor flatlining. I didn't know what to do. Lucky for me there were 2 doctors walking by as she flatlined. When I woke up they were rushing in the room. I was in shock. I show any emotions. But they were all inside of me. Finally tears started to come. She couldn't almost leave me again. They were doing a whole lot of things. More and more doctors came rushing in. Then one doctor turned around and told me to go wait in the waiting room and that they would keep me updated. I walked with a blank face to the waiting room and slowly sat down as the tears started to roll down my face uncontrollably. I sat there and let the tears just come. I walked outside and called Gwen and Timothy back in to the hospital. They said they would be there in 5 minutes. They lived close too.
When they walked into the door, a doctor come up and told us that they managed to save her. I was so relieved. So was Gwen and Tim. We sat down and I told them everything. Then we were told we could go back and see Colleen. We went back and she was still asleep.
I almost lost her again.
