AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

You expected death to be peaceful. Heck, you expected to be in either Heaven or Hell. Leaning more towards Hell, though.

You never expected yourself to be drifting in the void though. Strange, but almost peaceful. At least you weren't in pain. Aside from the strange sensation on both your legs.

"I suppose this would be the part where I step in and take control of your body. But sadly, such a thing is beyond even me"

You try to move around to see where the voice was coming from, you fail miserably.

"This could also be the moment where I give some encouraging speech to make you snap out of it and grow a backbone, but the water has already killed you"

"If that's true, then why am I here?"

"Who knows? Maybe it's me that's trying to keep you alive, or I just want you to suffer here in the endless void. Either way, I'm dying because of you, and communicating with you like this is taking too much of my energy, in simpler terms, it's killing me faster"

"F*ck" you try to pull your hair but you can't move them "this was never meant to happen"

"Yet it has" the voice snarled.

"I'm sorry Alastor"

"You can act like it by getting out of your pity episode and kicking that leech's face out of your brain"

"How can I when I'm stuck here? And you just said I'm dead, so how can I magically come back from the dead like a phoenix?"

"Look up"

You feel something tilt your chin upwards and notice a football-sized white light ahead of you.

"That's there because of me, because I refuse to die like some weak-willed prey" he states calmly into your ear "and it's still within your reach too my dear, you just have to remove the weight that's holding you down"

Your head moves again, and you see those chained balls used in cartoon shows on each leg.

"Didn't expect you to be supportive" you chuckle weakly.

"I value my afterlife, I have no intention of staying here until you finally draw your last breath" the pressure changes to discomfort "so tell me, what is holding you down here?"

One of them is easy to answer "guilt that I killed my mum, accident or not, I still did it, I held the metaphorical gun and held it against her head"

"People don't think when something changes out of the blue" he states calmly "you acted on impulse, survival instincts if you want the proper term, and this was the result, there is no shame in that"

He was right about that, survival instincts were unpredictable, and half the time people paid the price for it. Either by guilt or jail.

"What else?"

"I wasn't strong enough to save my sister from that thing's disgusting hands, I just, pretended everything was alright and didn't do anything to stop it"

"You were a child who was manipulated by events, not everyone can adapt at a young age, you played the safe game to survive, even at the cost of your spawner's hand"

"Still-"

"What is, is my dear, you cannot change what you did back then, but what you can do, is change the course of your fate. You have allowed yourself to fall into despair and self pity that you cannot see the opening right in front of you"
