He sat on his windowsill and continued to watch the rain crash against his window, it was kind of soothing except for the thunder and lighting. He'd been afraid of thunder since he was 9 years old.
Another wave of it came through and he pulled his knees closer to his chest, slapping his hand across is mouth to stifle a sob.
He didn't want to wake his dad, or else he'd get in trouble... Again....She sat across the street on her porch, completely drenched but smiling up at the sky happily.
Lightening was one of the prettiest things in the world to her.
Her hoodie was draped loosely around her shoulders as she examined the sky, the rain came down harder and thunder rumbled the porch she sat on.
Her gardens were ruined, all her hardwork down the drain but she just told herself the flowers laid down to rest.
She switched her gaze from the flowers up to the houses beside and in front her. Rain rolled off the roof and basically any flat surface that was exposed to it.
Just then a small movement from the boy across the street's window caught her attention, there he sat on the windowsill with his knees pulled to his chest and his hand over his mouth.
His eyes darted to hers and she smiled and waved.
He smiled back sadly, but quickly shut his eyes when a large crash of lightening sounded above them, he opened his eyes once it was over to see her still staring up at the sky smiling larger than ever before and he felt calm and reassured until another clap light up the sky and he let out a loud sob.
She only looked at him, confused.
He only cried harder as he listened to the sound of his fathers door opening-------------------------------------------
he went to school the next day.
he had to wear sunglasses that day because black eyes draw a particular amount of attention.
Walking to class with his books in hand, he passed the girl from the night before.
She smiled and waved then began to walk beside him."My name's Abby" she said "what's yours?"
"Micheal" he replied "but you can call me Mica"
"Why were you crying last night?" She tilted her head sideways questioningly.
"I don't like storms I guess" he shrugged.
"Why were you in the pouring rain?""I like storms I guess" she smiled.
After the school day was over, Abby and Mica walked home, talking about their families. Abby had two little twin sisters that were still in grade school, and Mica had one older brother who moved from their little town in Michigan to Wisconsin.
"I don't see him much" mica started. "So it's just me and my dad"
"Oh" Abby stared down at her shoes.
"What's wrong?"
"Don't you ever miss him? I mean my sisters are annoying as hell but I couldn't imagine living without them"
He just sighed.
"I mean sometimes I do but I never knew him well enough to miss him lots"
"That's unfortunate" she muttered back.
There was a long silence.
"Well this is my house" he said shyly.
"I know"
he turned around and began to walk up to his door.
"There's suppose to be another storm tonight mica"
He stopped in his tracks and sighed.
"I guess I'll see you tonight then"
She smiled at the back of his head.
------------------------------------------
Two weeks passed and both of them spent every stormy night communicating from across the street, Abby on her porch and Mica perched on his window sill.
He told Abby about how is father hurts him.
She told him that it'd get better soon, and soon he'd be happy, and he'd be surrounded by people who loved him.
So he held on.
One night Mica joined Abby on his porch, he had gotten use to the thunder a bit.
Abby just seemed to make everything better and he could see himself falling for her."Mica?" Abby asked. "Do you ever wonder what'd it'd be like to die?"
He looked over at her, his eyes widening.
"I mean where do you think you go when you die?"
"Well I think you go to heaven and you get to be happy"
"You want to go to heaven?"
"Maybe not just yet but when the time comes yes" he laughed.
"But when do you know when your time comes?" She seemed deep in thought.
"You don't"
"So my time could be right now? Or your time could be right now?"
Even through the rain he could see she was crying at this point."Well I don't see any potential threats but it could be" he laughed yet again, and gestured to the lonely streets around them.
"If I were to die with someone I'd want to die with you Mica" she cried harder, pressing one hand to her mouth and one on something in her pocket.
"Hey look at me" he said whilst raising her chin with his finger "I feel the same, you know that"
The both just looked at each other, through the rain and the storm everything just seemed to stop for a moment as he leaned in.
Just before their lips connected Abby stopped."Mica?" She began.
"Yeah Abby?" He breathed against her lips.
"Our time is right now"
-------------------------------------------
And at 1am with rain pouring and lightening clashing Abby held Mica.
The knife still inside his stomach. All she did was smile, before taking it out and shoving it in her own stomach.
But she wasn't sad, and she wasn't depressed, she just knew her and mica would be together, and nothing would hurt him or her ever again and when she got to speak to mica in heaven he'd thank her, she did tell him that he was going to be happy soon.
She really meant it.
So,
as she closed her eyes,
the rain became her comfort place.
