Gale's POV

During the games, I was the most depressed I've ever been in my entire life. It felt like everything in my life had fallen apart into a million pieces. I had to work in the mines six days a week, I couldn't hunt anymore, and Katniss was in the games. All I did was work, then sit at home on our old couch watching the games. I barely slept. But even so, every Sunday morning I would drag myself off of our couch and force myself to go hunting. I promised Katniss that when she was in the games I would take care of her family. One day after I got back from hunting, I saw Katniss' face on the old TV. Not just hers. Peeta Mellark's face was up their too. And they were a team. Then they... they kissed. And kept kissing. More and more and more. I dropped my game bag to the floor, and ran outside. Back into the woods. I kept running going on even when I thought my legs were about to fall off. I finally stopped and collapsed at the lake. The lake that only Katniss, her father, and me know about. This was our safe spot. But now, nothing feels right. Nothing is right. Nothing is safe. I force my weak and tired body to sit up, and I remember. Something Katniss said right here.
"I never want to have kids. You know why? Because every year when the games come I just wouldn't be able to stand even the thought of my child being reaped."
"I'd like kids. It'd be fun. But i wouldn't care if the person I'm with doesn't want to have kids. As long as she's mine and she loves me more than anything."
I can't think straight now. Everything is a blur and the world goes black. All my dreams are haunted by nightmares. Nightmares of Katniss being taken away from me by the bread boy, and images of Peeta kissing her, touching her, having children with her. If they are together, she might change her mind in kids for him but not for me.
I wake up, realizing I'm still in the woods, and that it's dark out. I slowly stand up, and then begin running to the fence. I'm about to duck under the fence when I hear it. A loud buzz. Never faltering. The fence power has been turned on.
