Cuts Run Deep

Chapter 3

I woke up to a sudden knock on the door that sounded more desperate than ever. I sprang from the bed and rushed to the door.

Newt.

"What's wrong this time Newt?" I ask trying to get his eyes above equator.

"Um Alby wanted me to tell you that you have to go out to the forest and get some firewood for the bonfire tonight." Newt said quickly drawing his attention away from my chest.

"Of course just let me get dressed, tell Alby I'll be done by noon." I say while closing the door.

Once Newt had gone I rushed to my closet and got dressed in decent clothes. As I finished up putting my shoes on I realized I had a mirror.

I walked up to it and saw myself for what seemed like the first time.

I have long Brown hair that faded into a sort of blonde to the tips. My eyes are Hazel with a pure black out lining. I'm fairly skinny with (if I do say so myself) a nice ass.

After I was done looking at myself, I quickly went outside to see everyone working. Newt was working with Mihno just in front of the doors but I didn't see Jordyn anywhere. I watched as they nodded and began running into the Maze.

I then looked over to see Thomas.working with the farmers. I finally remembered my job and went into the forest to get bigger than average branches for the bonfire. At first I drug them all by hand then I got some help from Gally who wouldn't shut up about his problem being single and the boys keep telling him it's cause he's too harsh; but if you ask me I think it's cause of them wacky eyebrows. Its like he plucked them in the dark.

Then after about an hour I had help from All the boys. The farmers had made a net type thing that would carry all the wood so we wouldn't get splinters.

I was right by noon the whole forest was plucked clean from ground branches. I was pretty proud of myself. Oh yeah and the boys.

Alby looked proud and by the time Newt and Mihno got back and ran into the mapping room the bonfire was about to start.

"Hey Raven nice job I'm very proud of you." Alby says and pats my back I smile and stay sitting on a log as he walks away. I keep watching everyone party and have fun.

I decided to go for a slight walk. So I got up and started walking around my hut. Once I got to the back of my hut, someone jumps out at me and pins me to the wall.

The face clears up and So does the knife to my throat.

Again why does Newt keep doing this!

"Jordyn!" I yell and she makes me become quiet.

"Listen here, I swear to shucking God if you try to hitting on Newt, if you talk to him if you even look at him I'm going to tell Alby you had sexual relations with Thomas, to get you both banished!" Jordyn says pushing on the knife.

"He won't believe you." I say trying pull away from the knife.

"Oh yes he will because I was here first and longer than the both of you and he trusts me!" Jordyn exclaims and cuts me on my cheek bone on the right side.

"You could've blinded Me." I yell

"Shut up or I'll do it again now get out there and don't socialize with him." Jordyn threatens and pushes me out there with a deep and bloody cut.

I walk back out to a large pine tree and sit on the other side not facing the fire. I sit there trying to hold in my tears.

All of a sudden three pairs of shoes walk up right in front of me they all kneel down to my height. Guess who?

I quickly turn my head to hide the cut from Thomas, Mihno, and Newt.

"Hey Raven, what's wrong why aren't you having any fun?" Newt asks looking at me with a worried face.

I just keep my face turned away from him and begin to cry, Newt turned my head to see the other side, by that time the blood had run down to my jaw bone.

"Oh my God Raven what happen to you?" Newt asked looking deep into my cut.

I just shook my head and Thomas came at me and hugged me tight asking over and over again and I had to tell Newt and Thomas but I didn't know how.

"Raven, just tell us nothing will happen to you." Thomas begged me. I finally got up the courage to tell Newt and Thomas, Mihno left to party.

"It was Jordyn she cut me and threatened that if I make a move on Newt, if I talk to him she'll tell Alby that I had sexual relations with Thomas so we both get banished." I explained and began crying again.

"Jordyn would never do that I have no idea what has gotten into her." Newt exclaimed holding my shoulders.

"Hey then let's just keep that going." Newt said standing up.

"What do you mean?" I asked confused

"Just follow my lead, tomorrow when we go in the maze I'll keep asking you a question, you'll get annoyed and answer it right in front of Jordyn. Okay?" Newt said I nodded and went back in my hut thinking.

Wait...I'm a runner!!
