Spirit, lying unconscious on the floor, Crona and I strapped down to cold lab tables and Dr. Stein holding a long, sharp scalpel over my bare stomach...
I shook my head. That wouldn't happen. Stop imagining things so pessimistically, I told myself while we stood outside the doors of Stein's lab.
"Ready?" I asked Crona. He squeezed my hand and we went in.
"Stein, they're here. Remember what we talked about" Spirit calls into a back room of the lab, and Stein comes out, nodding.
"No dissections of any sort." He sounded like a child reciting a house rule they hate. Crona, who had been scared to death before, loosened his grip on my hand as he got more comfortable. I still didn't trust the doctor.
"I'm just going to ask you some questions and to do some simple actions. Rose, you first, to show Crona I'm not going to hurt you." I followed the doctor into the back room, and he turned on the bright light.
"First, how often do you go into the madness?" I thought about it, counting the days between the attacks.
"About every few days... But more often since I've come here." Stein nodded.
"How many times since you've arrived?"
"Three." I said with confidence.
"And what were you doing directly before you came to the Academy?"
"Fighting the witch Arachne."
"Why?" We'll why was HE asking me all these trivial questions?
"She wanted to claim Simon as a weapon of her own. It's kind of routine, actually. Except, this witch was more powerful than the others..."
"Others?" Stein prodded, scribbling on his papers.
"Yes, weapons are usually named for their actions in battle, I assume its that way here too. Well, I guess there's just something about Simon that witches want."
"And what do you think that is?" I shook my head.
"It feels just like any other weapon would feel I imagine. I've only ever used Simon, though."
Stein excused himself, then came back with Spirit in weapon form.
"Now," he handed the scythe to me, "fight me." I nodded, and gripped the scythe which was actually much heavier than Simon, like comparing a brick to a feather. I swung, and hit him with the blade that Spirit had made dull for this purpose. The attack had the same effect I wanted it to, and Stein was knocked into the wall on the opposite side. 'This is fuuuun' I thought. Madness...
I would have been consumed by it if Crona hadn't come bursting through the door at that exact time, Ragnarok in hand. He saw the madness in my eyes, and dropped his sword.
"Rose, calm down. What's going on?!" Stein got up, the dent in the wall about as deep as a kiddie pool, and Spirit turned back and shook me. 'This isn't very comfortable.' I thought, and hardened the black blood in my fist to push him away. I swung at him, and he was back handed into the wall opposite where Stein was thrown.
"Hehehee..." I giggled, and Crona lunged at me, his own blood hardened, so we tumbled to the cold floor.
"Please, Rose, stop." I paid him no attention and tried to push him off, but he was determined this time. I looked up to his face to see giant silver blue eyes staring into my own, which turn black in fits of madness. This was no fit, I was stuck in this madness, like my sanity was being slowly sunk in tar, but my body kept on moving.
"My blood is black... My favorite color... Hey," I lifted my head, "your hair is pink! Haha, like cotton candy..."
"Please, Rose, you're scaring me... Dr. Stein, please go get Simon! Are you alright?"
"Yes. I'll go get him." He ran out of the room, and the doors of his lab slammed shut, while Crona still struggled to hold me down.
"This is uncomfortable," I said with a sugar sweet voice, "and you're in my way." I hardened the blood even more, and threw him off, just in time to be grabbed from behind by strong arms. Something in the peripheral caught my eye; the locks of forest green hair that swayed my way from the left. That same hair was facing me, and the strong arms tightened as he approached... What was his name... The boy put his hand on my shoulder, and I remembered.
"Simon." I sighed, and went limp. The arms released me, and Simon caught me. He nodded at someone I couldn't see.
"Thanks, Black Star. She's fine now, I guess you won't be needed Maka, but thanks for coming." I stood up, and looked around with teary eyes at Dr. Stein and Spirit.
"I'm so sorry, I don't know what happened, I just..." I looked down as the tears started to overflow, and started to sense who was in the room. The doctor, Spirit, Simon, Maka, Black Star, Crona, and Soul was here too. Probably just because Maka had come. But he was actually curious about this.
"What happened, Professor?" Stein explained what happened, and I held firmly to both Simon and Crona's hands. Then, I figured out why the witches want Simon.
"His soul is special." I said. I walked up to Stein, letting go of the others hands, and explained my theory to him.
"His soul adjusts to his meister's, and adapts itself to perfect the outcome of resonance links. But along the way, it also adapts to protect and compliment the meister's soul, as well as balance out any danger the meister may pose to themselves. Because we were together for so long, the affects are immensely magnified."
"Yes, that would explain it. When you bind with a weapon, using it unlocks the madness of your blood, but Simon's soul has adjusted to keep that from happening, because that endangers the meister. Yes, it's very clear now."
I looked back at Simon and smiled.
"Well, Si, I always knew you were special."
(So sorry this took so long, I had been putting it off then did some last minute speed typing. I want to put a special thanks to autocorrect in here, because this would have taken a lot longer if I didn't have it.
