Chapter 22:
Jamie's POV:
My eyes widened and my I didn't move. "Jamie, under the circumstances I won't drink from you right now. I'll go hunting tonight. But I can't live off animal blood for long. I'll call a doctor to see what this is and we'll get you through it. Ok?" I nodded my head and let my body sink back into Hunter's. I can't say I 100% trust him. But I know that I'm afraid more than anything else of being alone.
I closed my eyes once more and quickly drifted off to sleep. Hunter whispering words of reassurance in my ear. The last thing that crossed my mind was wondering about my future. What should happen to me? What if I can't be cured? Will I die?
* I ran faster through the dark woods. Hearing steps behind me of six feet pounding against the ground. Mine, and the wolfs. Finally I stopped at the pond. It seemed to glow under the full moon.
I turned to find the snow white wolf behind me. "Jamie. Jamie." Whispers seemed to echo around me. The wolf in front of me drew closer. I heard howls in the distance. I looked up at the full moon once more.
When I looked back, the wolf was gone. Eli stood in its place wearing a white shirt and jeans. "Eli?" "Jamie, where are you?" His voice was an echo. My heart started pounding.
"I don't know." Eli looked up at me, then came closer. Soon his face was inches from mine. He took out a pair of scissors and cut a lock of his hair. He then took out a locket and placed his small lock of hair inside. "Here." He fastened it around my neck.
"Don't worry Jamie. I'll find you. I love you so much." He kissed my forehead before I woke up in Hunter's arms once more. "You alright Jamie?" "Yeah. What time is it?" "About 8:00. The doctor will be here soon. I'm gonna go hunting before he gets here. Ok?"
Hunter began getting up. I grabbed his arm and looked up at him. He looked me dead in the eye and I quickly pulled my hand away. His eyes seemed to burn into me. I could see he was angry. Not to mention hungry.
When he saw the fear cross my face, Hunter's expression quickly changed. "No,no,no! Jamie don't be afraid, I'm not going to hurt you I promise. What can I get you? What do you need?"
"I-I just don't wanna be left alone. I'm scared." Hunter looked at my worried expression before he held out his hand. "Come on, Jamie. I don't like this idea but I can't think of any others."
Hunter led me out of the room and down the hall. Next thing I know, I'm standing outside an unfamiliar door. Hunter knocked twice before a sleepy looking Derek opened the door and yawned. He had on a pair of sweatpants and no shirt. He must have been asleep.
"Derek, I need you to stay with Jamie until I get back. The doctor should be here soon and I don't want to be hungry when he gets here." Derek's eyes widened a bit. He then looked down and studied my arm. "Alright." He stated simply.
Hunter gave me a gentle nudge towards the door. I looked at him in disbelief. Surely he wasn't making me stay with Derek. I thought they were mad at each other. "It's okay Jamie. I explained everything to him earlier. Your safe with him. I promise I won't let anything happen to you, okay?" I nodded and slowly crept into Derek's room.
