~ASPEN~
Charlie takes the CD and digs around in his baggy khaki pants until he pulls out a gold coin. "Whoa! What is that? Is it real gold?" I ask. "What's going on?" Cassie asks while turning to look back at us. "Oh Iris, Goddess of the rainbow, Please accept my offering." He tosses the coin at the CD and it disappears through the reflection. "Chiron, at Half- Blood Hill." He requests.
The rainbow shimmers and morphs into a vision of a camp with a bunch of kids ranging from 7 to teenage years. "Chiron!" Charlie calls into the CD. A face of a middle-aged man with thinning hair and a scruffy beard wearing a frayed tweed jacket appears in the line of vision. "This is so freaky!" I announce. "Who might this be?" The so-called Chiron asks. ("Weird name," I think.)
My eyes go wide. "He can see me? Through a CD? And hear me?" I ask. "A CD? I haven't thought of that one before." He says while rubbing his fluffy chin, "Now who thought of that idea now?" Chiron asks. Juliet climbs into view of the CD and he looks impressed. "Very bright indeed," he compliments thoughtfully. "Oh please! I live for rainbows... and glitter, and romance, and sparkles, and-" Juliet rambles. "Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Girl you're rambling again." I say. "Oopsies," she apologizes while covering her mouth. "Ok! Ok!" charlie calls back the attention, "Chiron we need your help! Can you send some horses? 3 or 4 maybe? We need the fastest you can get. We've got a monster on our tails and need to get to camp from the outskirts of Seattle stat." Charlie says. "I'll do what I can, Charlie. Be safe. You know what happened to Grover's bunch of three. Three is very hard to accomplish. I hope and pray to the Gods that you four make it here alive." With that the connection goes fuzzy and Chiron disappears.
Charlie grows anxious. "We can't just sit here doing nothing." He says frantically. "Who said anything about doing nothing? We have questions!" I say. "First, what did you say about a... a mons..monster?" I stammer. He looks nervous and then says, "There's no time! We need to get out. Our rides are here." A herd of stallions descend upon the land from the sky with their wings outstretched. (Did I just say wings? Oh Yes, horses with wings. Just add it to my tab of craziness, Pegasus- CHECK!) "Oh My Goodness! It's a Pegasus!" Juliet screams. Cassie and I just stand their looking stupid while Charlie drops his crutches and straps Jules into the saddle of a majestic pinto horse. "Come on girls! Do you want to get eaten!" He yells with urgency in his voice. We regain our composures and he straps us up too. My horse is a brilliant fiery red-orange and Cassie's is purely white and regal. In seconds he's up on his horse, a black stallion, too and we're off. I scream. Juliet keeps 'WOOHOO!'-ing, and Cassie is smiling while holding on for dear life. Charlie looks like he's been flying his whole life. 'What have I gotten myself into' is all I can think. That and, 'I'm so going to die today!'.
"Are you sure this is is safe?" I yell to Charlie. He appears not to have heard me. But when I first started he seemed to hear every word. "Ok let's try this one, where on earth are we going?" I yell. This one he seems to hear. He moves his Pegasus closer and I still can only barely hear him over my heart pounding, flying through the air, and city commotion. Although we were miles away from Seattle it was still loud. "Half-Blood Hill in New York. It's a year round summer camp for Demigods. It is very dangerous to be a Demigod and you are always in danger by being in the mortal world. I am a Satyr. Cassia will you like to explain?" Charlie says. "Sure, but wait! What? You're a Satyr?" He nods. "Well... Um, ok, a Satyr is a half man -slash- half goat with legs like a goat and goat horns atop his head. It's a Greek mythological creature-" "blah haha! Myth? I don't think so." He interrupts. "-that follows and prays to the Greek God PAN." Cassie finishes. At the mention of PAN I see a single tear stream down his face. I decide not to ask. He recovers. "What about our families, our friends, and school? I have an essay due Monday and karate practice everyday." Juliet says. "Some of you will be able to withstand the mortal world, but some will not." He says looking at Cassie.
