The day went by very slowly and Hannah sat on her bed the whole time watching as the sky went from blue to grey with rain. She listened with childlike wonder as people talked outside her door. It was around midnight and Hannah could hear a light tapping on the door. Thinking it was Madi coming to go to bed, Hannah covered herself with a blanket so that Madi would think she was sleeping.
"Are you awake?" Jack asked as he came into her room with a candle.
"I stay awake here," Hannah replied as she sat up. The moon was shinning in the room giving everything a beautiful blue glow.
"I hate this," Jack sighed as he sat beside her and looked out the window, "I hate that I can't be of more help. I hate that you aren't feeling well."
"If you stayed here and slept by me I would feel better."
Jack looked at her with sleepy green eyes then took off his heavy boots and climbed under the covers. It felt good to have him by her side again. She missed the way his skin smelled, the way his hair covered his eyes when he was sleep and his warm body when she cuddled next to him. She woke up the next morning and rolled over to see Jack, but he was gone. She stayed in the bed a bit longer, and wondered if she had been dreaming about him again, but the smell of his body still lingered on her skin, reassuring her that he was really there that night.
