We were all happy. Laughing at each other's jokes and just having the time of our life. It was my birthday and it was supposed to be happy. Until one phone call.
"I'll get it!" My mom volenteered. "Hello? Yes, this is his mother. Why?"
My mom's smile shattered before our very eyes and she look like she is about to cry. "Thank you, sir."
"What's the matter?" My father asked.
"It's Jake. He's in the hospital."
(IN THE HOSPITAL)
We barged in into the hospital doors and asked a nurse if my brother, the one who got in a car accident, is okay and where was he now. they told us that he was okay and was resting in private room. So we headed towards the room and we open the door.
What I saw was horrifying. I can't even tell if it was my brother. His face was covered bruises and wounds that was taken care of but still looked fresh. One of his arm was in a sling. He was in a very deep slumber.
My mother broke into uncontrolable sobs and my father clenched his jaws.
Hours have passed. I was sitting beside him, holding a rosary, while mom and dad weretalking to the doctor.
I held his hand. "Please don't leave us," I cried. Then the beeping machine beeped faster and faster and faster. "DOCTOR!"
The doctor came barging in with three nurses. The nurses said that I should wait outside and I hesitantly obeyed. The door was closed and all we could do is hope and pray.
My mom was crying on dad's shoulder while he try to calm her down.
I pressed my ear against the door to hear what was going on in there.
The heartbeat still hasn't calm down and I was sure they were panicking.
"Doctor! We are losing him! We are losing him!" One of the nurses said
Then I heard the sound we all dread to hear. The beeping machine was now producing a long constant beep.
"Clear!"
I held the rosary tighter until my knockles turned white. I closed my eyes and prayed silently, "Please don't take him away from us yet."
"Clear!"
Mom's sobs was harder than ever.
"Please."
10 seconds have passed.
"NO!" My mom cried.
"Clear!"
15 seconds have passed
"Please!"
"It's going to be alright," My dad said, wiping mom's tears away.
"Clear!"
"PLEASE!" I begged.
Very long 20 seconds have passed and still no answer. Everything fell deadly silent. Until...
'Beep...Beep...Beep...' The beeping machine went to life again. The doctor and the nurses cheered. My mom broke into tears of joy. And dad, well, he's happy.
I smiled and started to pray, "Thank you, Almighty God for giving my brother another chance to live"
