" Why did I think this would be a good idea?" The old scientist mumbled to himself as he nimbly climbed into the cockpit of a fighter jet. "I can still walk away, but where's the fun in that?"
With that, the old scientist closed the cockpit, throttled the engines, and sped off towards Fallen territory.
---
" How is progress on the base defense going, Dave?" An important-looking manager asked one of his employees sitting at a monitor in a complex of computers.
"It's going well." Dave said in a monotone voice, not even looking away at his keyboard as he spoke. " Everything's going as planned."
" In that case.." Dave's manager said. "Want to grab a..." The complex shook as a sonic boom was released, shattering the windows and glass inside it.
"WHAT HAVE THOSE VILE FALLEN DONE NOW?" Dave's manager yelled, nervous from the sonic boom. Screams of shock, surprise, and anger could be heard all around the Chosen territory.
" I think it was a sonic boom, sir." Dave replied.
"It was a rhetorical question, Dave." After saying that, the manager walked away, unclipping a walkie-talkie from his belt and said into his walkie-talkie, " I want answers, and I want them fast. The sooner we figure this out, the sooner we got stop it. Clear? And warn our diplomats. Things are gonna get ugly, fast."
"Crystal." Said the soldier on the other side.
---
" Ambassador, are you sure we should go through with this? We don't even know if we can trust those Fallen." The ambassador's assistance asked as the two humans strolled toward Fallen territory to negotiate.
The ambassador stopped, and looked his assistant in the eyes and said, " Everyone, man or beast, should be given the choice of salvation,as He said in the Book. Some of my comrades have forgotten this." The ambassador said to his assistant, after which, two men keep on walking towards the Fallen's diplomacy tent.
"Um, ambassador? You have an urgent call." His assistant said.
"What is it now?" He replied, annoyed at the disturbance.
His assistant was about to reply, when a fighter jet sped across the sky, while getting shot at by all manners of anti-flying devices, magical and physical.
" Oh my!" The ambassador said frozen in place with fear.
---
" Time to purge these scum off the face of this world!" The old scientist screamed into the empty cockpit as he flew the fighter jet to the most military-looking building he could see. Flying demons and magical missiles trying to stop the jet, but to no avail. They simply weren't fast enough.
So the fighter jet crashed, flames and smoke spewing from the fuselage, to the ground. And the petawatt bomb exploded.
---
A human technician holding a tablet, said to the manager. " The worst anyone got from the petawatt bomb was a major migraine, and the only physical damage was done by the plane crash, not the bomb. The human controlling it seems to have survived, but with major damage to his nervous and skeletal system. Our mages are keeping him alive as we speak, but they are pushing their limits."
The manager paused, then said, " Bring the pilot back to base, and fix him up with what you can, then we'll interrogate him to find out what happened."
---
" You come to OUR HOME under the banner of peace, then try to kill us? And I thought we were heartless. EXPLAIN YOURSELVES!" The imp interrogator said to the human ambassador and his assistant in one of the demons lairs.
The ambassador calmly state as his assistant cowered behind him. " Well, sir. We have no idea what just happened. We were just.."
" IDIOTS! Do you think I'm as dumb as a rock! You humans are pulling the whole 'plausible deniability' card again. I won't take this anymore. You two are in my custody until we find out what really happens, with or without your consent. Now, lay down your bags, and we can all relax." The imp interrogator said.
The two humans did as there told. The assistant, finally having the courage to speak, stuttered." We truly don't know what happened here, but if you need help, I can conjure a healing spell to heal any of your wounded?"
" A human, help us? After what happened today, I wouldn't be surprised if you tried to scathe us. I don't like this anymore then you do. Trust me on that." The imp said, weariness shown in his voice." I wish things were more black and white, that's what you humans say, correct?"
The humans nodded in agreement. "But no matter what befalls us, we endure, both of our races do." The ambassador said.
" I like you. You're not like the other humans trying to end us. You try to find other ways." The imp said, laying on a nearby boulder.
" There is strife on Chosen soil, as you can tell, over what we should do with the Fallen. It is between the peacemakers, and the warmongers, as well as every faction in-between."The ambassador said, and his assistant nodded in agreement. "Oh, what is your name, anyway?" The assistant said.
" My name is Trakskel, an interrogator for the Fallen." Trakskel said.
" Ok, Trak it is, then." Said the ambassador. " And your cave has a certain splendor to it, with the furniture being shaped out of stone. Nice touch. Maybe our two races living in harmony isn't as far-fetched an idea as I once thought."
