After we got down singing all I could do was stare and admire Jessica. We both sat there looking at each other for what seemed like forever until she piped up and said,

"Where did you learn to play?"

"I taught myself when I was 12, my dad was never a big believer in me and my music. He's a "practicality" kind of guy. He didn't think music was a practical career for me, so he's just never supported it. I honestly think I should've listened to him, I tried getting a record deal in this town and it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. I could be a doctor, lawyer or astronaut or something prestigious like that right now, I had the brains, but instead I'm here, I am a bartender, nothing special, nothing a young kid aspires to be."

"Well I think you are a talented singer and all the labels were dumb down here not to take a chance on your talent."

I scoffed and tried to believe what she was saying. I blew my chance, it's not that labels ignored me.. It was my drug problem. I got too heavily involved in drugs a couple years back when I was signed to Kap Records, I was caught snorting coke in my dressing room before a show and I violated the contract so I was dropped from the label. I went to rehab and used the rest of my earnings to buy the bar. I couldn't tell Jessica that though, she would think I was some kind of freak or a failure so I lied to her.

"Yeah they really missed out huh? Thanks for saying that. Anyways Jessica what brought you to L.A.?"

"I want to pursue a music career. "

"Don't let the industry get to your head and don't let them abuse your talent. You've got a gift Jessica."

She smiled and I knew she was going to be special to me. I needed to take her out somewhere, get to know her better. Tomorrow my buddy Luis was coming into work. He could take care of the bar so I spontaneously asked Jessica,

"Want to go with me somewhere tomorrow?"

She smiled again and replied, "Sure."

"Meet me in front of the bar at 8:00"

"Sounds good. See you then."

I knew exactly where I was going to take her.
