"Someone's here."
Jessica saw nothing but a blur as Tiffany pulled the covers from under Jessica and laid them on top of her. The blood surrounding Tiffany's mouth started dribbling down her neck and she had to use her sleeve to wipe it away.
"I'll hide under the bed. Do not fall asleep."
Tiffany's voice was stern but Jessica detected the hint of worry. She started counting numbers in her head and when she reached eleven the door to her bedroom burst open.
Jessica's sister surveyed the room before looking at Jessica.
"It's really quiet in here."
Jessica swallowed before speaking, trying to muster up strength to sound normal.
"That's because I was trying to sleep, moron. Now leave."
But Krystal stayed put and scrunched her face in thought. As if realizing something her face brightened and she crouched down.
"Hi."
Jessica slapped her face as she felt the bed move underneath her. Weren't vampires supposed to be stealthy or something?
"I was expecting a boy," Krystal said as Tiffany walked over to her.
"I'd like to think I'm much more interesting than a boy," she extended her hand, "Tiffany."
Krystal took the hand but her expression changed as she felt it chill her skin.
"Krystal," she offered skeptically.
"Jessica's told me nothing about you."
"Yea, that's no surprise."
Jessica was annoyed with their little banter. She was tired and Krystal was overstaying her welcome.
"Okay, you've met, now leave."
Tiffany looked over to Jessica and noticed she was a little paler than normal. She turned back to Krystal and flashed her the most charming smile.
"Krystal," she spoke softly and slowly, "would you mind making Jessica a sandwich?"
Krystal hesitated for a moment, staring at Tiffany's lips but snapped out of it. "Hell no. She can make one herself."
"Krystal," Tiffany beckoned once again. Krystal immediately listened. "Please?"
Time stood still as Krystal's eyes clouded over and she nodded mutely.
"God, I wish I could do that," Jessica sighed once Krystal left.
"Will anyone else be joining us tonight?"
Feeling a bit better, Jessica shifted upwards and sat against the headboard.
"My mom has a late shift tonight so no. You think you can keep Krystal occupied for the night?"
She watched as Tiffany crossed her legs; it gave her heart the extra boost it needed.
"I'm sure it won't be too hard. She's only a child and judging by how quickly she responded to me, it shouldn't be a problem. Exactly what are you planning for the entire night?"
"I was thinking we could go out but since you practically sucked me dry, I don't think I'm up for it."
Tiffany's face softened and Jessica knew it was something to appreciate. Tiffany rarely ever dropped the front of broody and distant vampire (it seemed like the books and movies weren't far from their mark) but Jessica was learning that Tiffany was exposing her kinder side every passing day.
