"28, 05, 99," I mumbled my locker combination as I fumbled to open it. It finally clicked and swung open, allowing me to grab the books needed for my next class. I put them in my bag before closing my locker, hurriedly locking it. I turned around, ready to scurry off to my next class, but I felt someone lay their hand on my shoulder, slamming me back into my locker.
"What the hell?"
"Stay away from my oppa!" Hyorin, the schools' most popular girl, shoved me again.
"Who's your oppa?" I said, sincerely confused, placing my bag on the floor.
"Don't act all innocent on me," she was yelling, which attracted all the students, who swarmed around us.
I felt as if I was a cage animal, being inspected by everyone.
"I know you're trying to steal Wonwoo oppa from me, but it's not going to work!"
Really? I wanted to laugh. This was all about me 'stealing' her boyfriend? Pathetic. I actually did have a crush on him, but I would never stoop that low.
"Why would I do that? I'm not as low as you," there were a lot of 'oohs' and 'shots fired' being called out from the crowd.
Hyorin seethed, her face going red with anger. "How dare you!" She raised her hand, slapping my face with extreme force.
I hissed in pain, my hand automatically reaching for my cheek, which stung like a bitch.
"I don't know why you'd steal my boyfriend," she giggled, flicking her hair over her shoulder. "Maybe you're jealous that you'll never be loved like I am."
"I'm not trying to steal your boyfriend, for goodness sake! I swear to you, we're just friends," I wanted to run away, never to be seen again.
"Don't lie to me!" she stamped her foot in frustration. "I've seen him walk you to class, both of you getting way too close to each other. And he's always staring at you through class!"
He looks at me during class? I blushed at the thought.
"See! You're blushing!!" she raised her hand again.
"I honestly don't know what you're talking about! Wonwoo and I only walk together when we have the same class!" I dreaded the thought of being slapped again.
"Ugh! You're such an annoying brat! Now, if you don't stay away from my Wonwoo, I'll make sure your life becomes a living hell. Understand?"
"I haven't been going near him in the first place!" I yelled, starting to get annoyed.
"Wrong answer," she clenched her hand into a fist, ready to punch. "Welcome to hell."
I closed my eyes, ready for the impact. But it never came.
"Hyorin? What the fuck are you doing?" A male's voice shouted over the din.
I opened my eyes and found myself staring right at Hyorin's fist, which wavered millimeters away from my face. There was a hand wrapped around her wrist, holding her fist in place. I looked to the owner of the hand and almost died of shock. It was Wonwoo.
"Oh! Babe! What are you doing here?" she smiled at Wonwoo.
She turned to face him and wrapped her arms around his neck, going on her tip toes, expecting a kiss. Wonwoo just frowned at her, lightly pushing her away.
"Oppa? What's wrong?" she held her hand up, reaching out to Wonwoo.
He grabbed her wrist and pushed it away. "Don't touch me." The hallway went silent. "What were you doing to (Y/N)?" His voice was stern.
"Oh! - uh, nothing! We were just talking about chemistry!" she reached out to me, trying to wrap her arm around my shoulders.
Wonwoo intervened, wrapping his arm around my shoulders, making Hyorin flinch away, "Don't touch her."
She pouted, tears forming her eyes. "But...but...oppa-"
"Save it for someone who cares. Hyorin, we're over."
He let go of my shoulder and turned to face me, his icy glare watching me intently, "Are you hurt?"
My cheek still stung from Hyorin's slap, but I didn't want to cause any more trouble, "I'll be fine, thanks." I kept my hand on my cheek, trying to hide the obvious hand mark and avoided eye contact.
"Are you sure?" he removed my hand from my cheek, replacing it with his own, warm hand. "You seem hurt. Let me take you to the nurse's office."
"No, no, it's fine. I can go myself-" I was cut off when Wonwoo grabbed my shoulders, and my bag, and tried to lead me away from the loud crowd.
It was impossible. People were everywhere, standing and staring at us like zombies. They wouldn't budge. I was going to cry. I was about to give up on escape when Wonwoo saved the day.
"Hey! All of you, get out the way, or else!" Wonwoo yelled, but everyone still stood in place, frozen with terror. "NOW!!"
Everyone scurried like rats in a sewer, running around in different directions, making sure they didn't get in our way.
"That's what I thought," he mumbled.
We started to walk towards the nurse's office when Wonwoo was pulled back by none other than Hyorin.
"Please, Wonwoo oppa, don't leave me! You can't-" she was cut off.
"Stop. Just stop. Nothing you can say will change my decision. We are over, full stop. Now, leave us alone," we pushed past Hyorin, who stared at us in shock.
