Azrael felt as if she had ran through three boroughs before she came to a stop.
Her insides ha stitches on both sides. Hell. Her stitches had stitches. Her anger and adrenaline kept her from feeling any pain. Dropping to her knees, she started crying uncontrollably.
Tears burned inside her eyes, sobs wracked her sides, as she fell to her side, crying in the grass.
"Why did Adam do this? He felt the same way I did!
He wanted this to happen. In as much as I did, he wanted it to happen!!! DAMN HIM! When I see him next, I will stick this into his bleeding heart." Azrael said, through gritted teeth.
She stabbed the ground with the stake. But, what she really wanted was Adam plunging into her over and over again, feeling his caresses, his kisses. The more she thought of him, the more she cried.
"Well. Well. Well. What do we have here?" a voice said low in the dark.
Azrael sat up startled that someone would have the nerve to get the jump on her. She grabbed her stake tighter and jumped up, poised and ready.
"Who goes there?" Azrael said mockingly, no trace of sadness remained.
"It's a little late hiding your emotions now. I've already seen your little show." the voice said, a little closer now.
Azrael could just make out the shadow. It was Anthony, her hunting partner.
"I've told you about sneaking up on me."
Azrael teased Anthony, pulling his hair. Anthony smiled slightly, but pulled away. Azrael noticed the flinch.
"What was that all about?" Azrael asked.
"I was going to ask you the same thing." Anthony asked, helping her with her stuff.
"What are you talking about?" Azrael asked him, grabbing her stuff from his hands, and walking off. She knew full well what he meant, and what he had seen.
"Really?" Anthony questioned seriously. "Are we going to do this now?"
"No... I. Was..." Azrael was about to say, when Anthony stopped her, his hand in her face.
"Who was that laying on the ground sobbing?" Anthony asked her seriously. "Whose name was escaping from your lips, as you were rolling around? It was that vampire...right?"
"Look, Anthony, I can explain." Azrael said, tears forming. She knew that Anthony had always had a fondness for her, and she too had special feelings for her; but, her feelings for Adam went far beyond that of even her understanding.
"Adam isn't it? That's his name.
You were supposed to be learning about him. NOT FUCKING him!" Anthony yelled at her.
He was jealous, he knew he was. He was also in love with Azrael. He was planning to make it more serious this summer, when he asked her to move into his flat, and to be his partner for life, as his loving wife. Now, she was tainted, she had given a vampire, another vampire what he desired most. She probably ascended too.
"You mean to tell me you WATCHED us?" Azrael asked him, somewhere between anger and embarrassed.
"NO! I can smell it. You reek of him! His blood. His smell. His seed! It MAKES ME SICK!!!!" Anthony shouted. "I can't even be around you, right now."
"I'm sorry, Anthony. Really, I am." Azrael, started to sob, again. "I really don't know why I am so weak around him."
"Did you ascend?" Anthony asked her nervously.
"No. Almost. But, no." Azrael said.
Anthony feeling relieved, turned toward his partner, still upset with her, but loving her, he embraced her.
Holding her tight, she sobbed. Suddenly a scream rang out through the night air. They both looked up, and took off, running in that direction. They had hit pay dirt.
Deep in the bushes, Adam stepped out. He had watched the whole scene play out between his Angel and him hunter friend. He did not know what hold her friend had on her, he knew he didn't like it. Why? He didn't know. He just knew that his feelings for his Angel was growing deeper and deeper. He knew he should have followed her, but he couldn't. Why? As much as she was moaning for him, his heart was calling for her. Deep in a state of emptiness without Eve or his Angel, he trudged on home, tears in his eyes.
Looking at the damage that both, Azrael and Anthony had done, they had laid waste to a nest of ten vampires. They also took a few bumps and bruises themselves. Limping home, they went to her place to settle in. Anthony, went upstairs and fixed a bath for both of them. She was a little reluctant, but she got in anyway. She let him wash over her body, kissing her lightly. But, all she could think of was her precious Adam. Anthony dried her off and tucked her into bed.
At any other given time, he would have made love to her. But...he would not take advantage of her...he was not Adam. He watched her sleep, until she fell into a deep sleep, then got dressed. Walking down the steps, he made a phone call.
"Sorry Azrael. I have no choice." Anthony said, while dealing. After three rings, the person answered. "Johnathan. It's me. It's imperative I see you today. Yes. It's true. On my way."
Taking one last look up the stairs, Anthony sighed. "It's for your own good."
