Christine Daae
I heard the blast from the organ and chills ran up my spine. I watched as some people from the audience jump.
The overture was rather loud, wasn't it? Meg and I giggled in our stage costumes.
I heard the real Carlotta walk on stage, her voice shrill, just like at the rehearsal. The only difference? This time see was trying to be annoying.
Meg and I danced on stage, reliving the rehearsal, up until-
"Christine Daae could sing it sir," Meg said. I pretended to be appalled, remembering how nervous I was in front of Andre and Firmin. The scene carried on and I began to sing Think of Me.
Thats when I felt it. The same exact feeling as the actual night. Erik's presence in the air, the room growing thicker and thicker and thicker.
The show went on and all was fine. Meg and I were scared of the Phantom, and I longed for an Angel. Really, nothing had changed.
Raoul and I reminisced yet again about the house by the sea. We hugged and held hands and laughed. He invited me out to dinner and I thought of Erik. How he accused me of still loving Raoul. I frantically declined, just like in the score.
"Insolent boy, this slave of fashion, basking in your glory! Ignorant fool, this brave young suitor! Sharing in MY triumph!"
Goosebumps rose as I heard his voice. I sang the song and watched as the mirror opened. He grabbed my hand, and my heart skipped a hundred beats.
We sang the song, crossing the boat on stage, nothing bad happening, except for the hatred in Erik's eyes. He assumed Raoul and I's body language.
He sang the lullaby to me, his voice putting me into the trance that I didn't come out of for the rest of the first act.
"DAMN YOU!" I heard him scream. I began to cry, Erik not caring and I started to cry harder.
We preformed the first act of the show-nothing happening until Raoul and I sang All I Ask of You. We sang it, but I never realized something.
Erik
Had
Been
There.
"I gave you my music. Made your song take wing, and now-how you've repaid me. Denied me and betrayed me. He was bound to love you when he heard you sing...Christine. Oh, Christine."
Raoul and I sang our part, but I was too engrossed in Erik's performance to notice. He had put his hand over his ears, and tears were spilling out of his eyes.
"YOU WILL CURSE THE DAY YOU DID NOT DO ALL THAT THE PHANTOM ASKED OF YOU!"
And with that, the chandelier fell, held up by bungee cords, and thus ended the first act.
