Christine Daae
"Masquerade! Paper faces on parade! Masquerade! Hide your have so the world will never find you!"
I lightly held Raouls arm, too worried about the King, and Landon, to hold tighter. In fact, I even forgot to sing.
"Christine, think of it, our secret engagement," Raoul sang, urging me to sing. I did, trying to cover up for my mistake. I looked backstage and saw Landon.
This couldn't be. He couldn't be here. Why was he here? I hadn't broken the deal, or done anything to aggravate him.
Erik. He was here to cause Erik pain.
By killing me.
"Look around there's another mask behi-"
I heard the loud bang from the orchestra pit and I jumped. I slowly turned around to look at Erik.
He looked handsome. I have to say that. With all the makeup, you can see his dark eyes and the smooth skin underneath.
Wait.
There wasn't any smooth skin underneath. That was the side of his distortion. It dawned on me.
That's where he had done, all this time.
He had removed his deformity.
Oh, my poor Erik.
I slightly motioned to him to look offstage. He slowly walked to me, asking me questions with his golden eyes.
Then he saw the King, close to Landon, and his eyes narrowed in anger.
"Her chains are still mine. She belongs to me!"
Then, he was gone. Just like that. In a puff of smoke. I ran offstage, towards him.
He pulled me into a hug, shushing me quietly. "Darling, please don't cry," he whispered. I took his mask off and kissed him.
My hand went to his face. I felt the makeup come off. I looked at his face and gasped.
He...he...his distortion was...gone...
"Erik," I said.
"Christine, this is for Canden, and for you. I know how hard it is to have to walk around with a man in a mask. Now you don't have to."
"I loved your face," I said, quietly.
"We can finally be a normal family," he said.
"How could you?" I whispered, pushing myself off of him.
The truth? The disruption of his face gave me hope. A selfish hope. He was handsome with it. Beautiful. Now? He was an angel. What was I going to do?
"Christine, I love you. I'll elaborate more later. Go change, you're on in 5," Erik nudged.
Before I knew it, I was screaming at him.
"Farewell my fallen idol and false friend!" I sang, trying not to fall into the trance of the night this had happened.
It hurt so bad.
"Pitiful creature of darkness, what kind of life have you known? God give me courage to show you...You are not alone!"
Erik and I kissed, and I heard the King of Persia lightly laughing. This was his big finish.
We ended the scene, and I ran offstage. Landon grabbed my arm, holding a gun to my head.
"How could you do this?" I asked, quietly.
"My darling, you'll see," he said.
"I am not your darling you stupid bast-"
"Don't you dare."
"It's over now the music of the-"
The gunshot sounded.
Erik Destler
I heard the gunshot as the curtain fell, signaling another intermission.
"CHRISTINE!" I screamed.
The audience applauded, thinking it was all a part of the show, but they didn't know that my dear Christine, the love of my life, their Primma Donna, was in danger.
