Sure enough, Tumblr blew up. So did Twitter, and Instagram, and YouTube. After a while he turned off his phone and refused to answer any texts. Anyways, it was probably just his friends asking what the hell was wrong with him. At some point he ordered pizza, noticing how much he had leftover without someone to eat it with.

Around midnight, Dan mustered up the courage to check the original post about what had happened in the elevator.

orangephan:

So as a lot of people know, I'm currently at Vidcon. It's been absolutely insane so far, except for a certain incident that happened today.

I was going up to my room after grabbing something from the cafe downstairs, and I happened to end up in the same elevator as Dan Howell. He didn't really seem right from the beginning, super flustered and upset, but he seemed okay with taking a photo with me. After I took a few selfies, I figured I could make small talk. So I asked about Phil, and what had really happened. I mean, we've all been wondering, so it would make sense, yeah?

However, when I asked, he totally blew up, yelling about how he'd lost his best friend and how he was so sick of us, ***the fans***. What happened to Dan not calling us his fans, but just people who supported him? I ended up leaving the elevator asap, but Dan seemed super angry and not himself.

So yeah, I don't know what's going on with Dan, but I probably won't be going to his meetup any time soon. Make sure to repost and shit.

PS did anyone else notice that they have separate meetups this year????

Dan read through the post once or twice more, making sure he was getting it all. Had he really been that much of an ass? His cursor flitted over the repost button. He could clear everything up in a few keystrokes, maybe even start figuring things out with Phil himself. He pressed the button.

Okay, so I saw this going around Tumblr and Twitter and LITERALLY EVERYWHERE, and I have to say:

It's true. I was an absolute ass in that elevator, but I can kind of explain? Yeah, my actions have no excuse, but I can try to make up for it.

Half a year ago, Phil Lester and I had a fight. It ended with him leaving, and me being left alone in out apartment for quite a while, until a good friend of mine found me a roommate who had helped me through this whole thing.

For a while, I was a mess. I let my hair grow until I looked like Bob Bryar, except a lot less cool. Less rock and roll and more homeless. The flat was covered in dust and the only thing I ate was pizza and food that could be cooked in the microwave.

Anyways, I was a horrible mess. Then my roommate came and things got better, but you can't expect someone to be perfectly fine after losing their best friend. Today happened to be the perfect epitome of bad things happening, so when orangephan saw me in the elevator she simply caught me at a bad moment.

So I'm sorry to her, anyone else I've been a royal dick too, and Phil. I'm sorry for not posting, and anything else you've taken offense to during the last six months.

Taking a deep breath, Dan posted the writing and shut his laptop, hoping for some good news. He replied to a few tweets, hoping to clear everyone up a little more. Then he opened up his texts.

Charlotte had texted him multiple times, all worrying about him and the elevator incident.

Dan: don't worry char, im okay.

Charlotte: thank god. I thought you'd gone and ruined your own life again :/

Dan: shut up... did you see the post?

Charlotte: yeah. you did a good job. Also, shouldn't you be asleep daniel??

Dan: oh yeah. gn

Before going to sleep, he scrolled all the way down to his oldest texts. At the very bottom was Phil. He hadn't had the heart to delete the messages, and he'd always hoped he'd be able to make things up with his old roommate. His fingers tapped the icon showing some dumb picture Phil hadn't known he'd taken, and he read back through the messages. They'd been so happy...

He wondered if he should apologize now. They might never be friends again, but he could at least stop feeling guilty for not trying. He heart raced as he tapped out a reply to the most recent message. Something about groceries, he couldn't remember what the context was.

Dan: I'm sorry.
