Chapter 1
If, by the standards of the popular crowd, reading means you're crazy, what does that make me? I mean, my plain open wall is bookshelves; not one piece of white wall showing, just shelves, every one filled. My bed sits alone in the middle of my room like an island. I have my shelf wall to the left, my bed in the center, and a rocking chair to the right. On the right wall were single descending shelves coming toward me, also full. I read just a little bit when I was younger but the more and more it became uncool the more I kept reading. Reading transports me somewhere else; to another world. Only true readers understand this. A world where the people and story can distract me from the reality of everyday life. Today was the worst. Luckily, it was almost over. Almost the end of the school year. Two more days and it would be over. Then there'll just be high school. Great. Maybe they will be more mature? No chance. Not these people. No way. I plopped my self on my bed inside a circular nest of pillows. I spread all the books and supplies I would need for my homework within the nest. I began to work, slowly at first then faster and faster for wanting to be done before dinner so I could rest. Swiftly, I finished writing my last sentence. Right as i lais back I heard a yell:
"Dinner time!" Well, at least my homework was done. Every last bit. All of the Science, Social Studies, Math, Specials, and Global Languages. Everything: done.
I gradually stepped down the steep stairs. Dinner, finally! I feel like they starve us at school. They control the portion sizes and the number of sides a person can have. They shouldn't be able to control our lives like that. Anyway, I rounded the corner and was met with the sight of a roast turkey and sides almost like a Thanksgiving dinner.
"What's this all about?" I asked.
"We got your report card in the mail," my mom started.
Ok, so I got a good report card, I didn't want to be bugged about it. No special treatment...it bothered me. I sat down wishing the dinner was just to be nice not to congratualate me on something that was expected in the first place.
