I was woken up by my mother telling me that today is the day we will be leaving. We are going to start over in a new town, state, and region. It was our idea but I think I'm a little more excited.
I had to convince my mom to make the move, but I convinced her that we needed to clean the slate. That we needed a fresh start and a new adventure. We picked a super small town in Minnesota. It looked so quiet and cozy with wilderness everywhere. It looks perfect. To make the adventure even bigger, me and my mom bought a resort. It's right on a lake and just outside of the town. It's quiet and in the woods and a great adventure.
I began packing up the remains of my things and put them in the moving truck. It was just us, driving 2,046 miles to our new home. It will take us three days but it'll add to the thrill of starting over.
You see, people in Anaheim didn't like me. I was shy, kept to myself, and was your typical nerd, you could say. I didn't have any friends and absolutely nothing holding me to that town. And my mom had a stay at home job with no husband or anything, so she was on board with a new experience.
We both had never been outside of California and we're so excited to finally see something new. Instead of mountains it will be forests. And instead of the never ending ocean, it will be thousands of lakes and rivers.
"Victoria we have to go sweetie." My mom yelled from downstairs.
"Okay, I'll be right down." I answered. This is it, I'm really getting the hell out of this town. I'm so ready for this. I walked down with my backpack in hand. Inside was my essentials, you know phone, charger, headphones, a book, and pencil/paper. It's gonna be a long 3 days in this truck, I need to keep busy. I also had put my pillow in the seat."We good to go? Got everything?" My mom asked for the fifth time in 20 minutes.
"I'm all set. Let's hit it." I am so ready for this.A few hours had past and I was getting so bored, this is gonna take forever. I decided to just try and sleep it off. After what felt like seconds I was woken up.
"I had to stop for gas, want to come in and get something to eat ?" My mom asked me. I checked the clock to see that I had indeed slept for 4 hours and was now lunch time. Food and stretching sounded like an amazing idea. Inside was huge, it was like the New York City of gas stations. and instead of people everywhere it was food. I had died and went into my heaven, absolute food heaven. I ended up getting a water, sandwich, Twix, and a granola bar. I was going to be set until the next stop. I just wanted to go back and sleep, I don't know why but I was so tired. i found my mom in the maze and we got back into the truck to continue the adventure.
I couldn't fall right asleep because I had to eat but right after eating I put in my headphones. I was listening to Cities between Us by Ellenberg when my phone went off. I was confused why anyone would want to talk to me so I opened it up to see it was a text.
>> Heard you left. Please tell me it isn't true.
It was my only "friend" I had after 16 years of living there, Sami it is short for Samantha.
<< Sorry, i needed a new start. Couldn't stand it anymore.
>> its okay, where you off too??
<< Somewhere far away. where no one will know me.
>> well, good luck and safe travels i guess. bye.
<< Bye.
That was it, I was free. I literally had nothing and no one I was going to miss. I fell asleep quickly after that, it was quiet and peaceful. The next time I woke up it was 4 in the afternoon and I was now super hungry again. What do you expect, I love food. No, I am not fat or anything, I just love food. After eating me and my mom just sat there talking and singing along with the radio. it was a great way to start off our new lives.
