Chapter 8

~Ren's POV~
No way. Tai? There's no way he would work for them! I mean, he's been by my side forever! He'd never betray us...
Could he? No. Yes? Uggghhhh! Their messing with me! I know it. I decided to pull myself together and act normal about it. No one would know but me, so I don't have to worry. But I wasn't ready to face them yet and eventually I fell asleep on the cold bathroom floor.

I woke up the next morning, aching slightly from sleeping on the floor. I opened the door hesitantly, peeking out to see if Tai is there. At the same time, I'm not surprised to find Tai staring straight at me, inches away.  "H-heyyyyy!" I gasped, pretending like nothing was wrong. "Hey, what were you doing in there all night? Do you have any idea how worried I was?!" He asked, stern and unusually..... Mature you could say.

"Sorry.... I was just mad I guess.... I didn't mean to stay there so long or anything I just.... I dunno....." I said, studdering and hesitating. I couldn't find the words to explain it I just.... Couldn't. "I'm going to get ready. I'll see you at breakfast." He dissmissed, gruffly and brief. I walked past him, to the dining room to meet with the others.

"Heyyyy guys!" I greeted sort of sheepishly. "Ren! We were so worried!" Uta complained. "He he, sorry I fell asleep there. But I have a question." I apologized. "Ask away." T.K assured me, looking attentive. "Well uhh, have you guys noticed Tai acting.... Strange lately?" I asked, briefly looking at the door to make sure he wasn't listening. "He seems to be more gruff and fatherly to me" Willis replied with a serious face. Yolei pondered before answering "yeah, I noticed last night. He was meaner and more grown up than usual.".

"I'm worried." I gushed, feeling my pained face wash over with worry. But it washed away just as quick when Tai came and sat down in his usual seat next to me. "Hey, what are we doing today?" I asked curiously, changing the subject. "Hmm, I think we should go to the park. There's a singing contest going on there." Kari suggested excitedly. We look around the table, nodding in agreement.

~Time skip, to the park~

~Still Ren's POV~
I stretched and breathed in the morning air. We had finally gotten to the park and we were in the audience of the contest. But just as I was about to enter with them, someone yanked my arm from behind. "Gah! Hey, what's the big idea?!" I complained. "I'm really sorry, but please I need your help. The star Melody Everflame is sick and I need someone to fill in for her. Please, I don't have anyone on hand to distract the crowd!" The manager like man begged.

Urrgghhh.... "Fine. I'll do it." I caved. He pulled me backstage, gave me an outfit and shoved me in an empty dressing room. I changed quickly and he pushed me to the stage. "Okay, it's your turn." He directed me as I walked up onto the stage. "Hey there! I'm Ren and I hope you enjoy!" I cheered, trying to act as if I was supposed to be there. The music started to flow through my ears, as if directing me.
