Shadow (ON HOLD)

Chapter 1:

Only going to be a short chapter to see if you like it, if you do please comment and i'll carry on writing the story :) The main character is called Anoushka.

I woke up to the sound of the rooster crowing, i shrugged my woollen dress on and went into the kitchen, i had my usual breakfast of porridge before going out to help on the farm. I looked after the sheep. I went into the barn and slowly rounded all the sheep up onto the hill with the help of my trusty sheepdog, Jim. I sat on the hill and dozed off, knowing that Jim would wake me if anything was wrong.

Jim was my best friend, i didnt go to school because my parents couldnt pay for the education. I was thirteen and hadnt even seen a boy apart from my father who was a nasty man, he barely fed me and he beat me regularly.

I was woken up by Jim tugging at my sleeve and licking my face. I jumped up and looked around wildly, my heart pounding in my chest. There was an eerie howling going on and I instinctivly knew it was wolves. I turned to face Jim and patted him, reassuring him. I wasnt sure if I was going to survive, the howling seemed closer now. I gave one sharp whistle and opened the gate, I knew Jim would do his job and round the sheep up back to the barn, I wasnt going to be following. I would stay here and fight, i knew it sounded odd but Jim was my best friend and there was no way I was letting the wolves get him without putting up a fight. It seemed like hours later but it was probably only seconds later when the first wolf emerged from the trees.

I was shaking from head to toe, but I stood my ground, looking the wolf directly in the eye. I gripped my cane until my knuckles turned white. Slowly more wolves emerged from the trees and surrounded me in a circle, until eventually there was twelve of them. The first wolf leapt at me snarling, it had a mad look in its eyes, its sharp teeth were bared, I was sure I was going to die...

Poor Anoushka, what's going to happen? Will she survive?
