THE BOOK BENEATH THE SILENCE
The next day came too fast.
The mansion was louder than ever — staff moving quickly, fabrics being pressed, chandeliers cleaned twice, flowers replaced to keep them fresh. The scent of roses and polished wood filled every hallway.
Tomorrow is AMORA DE FONTA.
And today—
Today felt like the calm before something irreversible.
I was in my room when my phone rang.
Alisa.
I smiled immediately.
“Finally,” I answered. “You disappeared.”
She laughed on the other end. “Excuse me? You’re the one living in a literal royal mansion. I should be the one complaining.”
Her voice was light — normal — grounding.
For a moment, I forgot about the party.
About the secrets.
About Phoenix.
“So?” she continued. “Life update. I want everything.”
I hesitated.
What could I say?
That the most powerful man in DE LA VENSITA stands in hallways like a shadow?
That there’s a celebration that might not be what it seems?
That I feel like something is pulling me toward a truth I’m not ready to face?
“It’s… intense,” I finally said.
“Intense how?”
I walked toward the window, staring at the gardens below.
“Like the whole place is holding its breath.”
She went quiet for a second.
“Are you okay?”
I looked at my reflection in the glass.
“I don’t know.”
She sighed softly. “Just don’t lose yourself in whatever rich-royal-mystery thing you’re in.” She replied
I laughed.
“If only it were that simple.”
After a few more minutes of teasing and reminders that I still owe her milk tea, we ended the call.
The silence returned.
Heavy.
I suddenly didn’t want to stay in my room.
So I left.

The mansion felt different during the day.
Less romantic.
More historic.
I walked through the west wing — a part rarely used. Dust floated in beams of sunlight. Old portraits lined the walls. Generations of faces watching.
Some smiling.
Some not.
I don’t know why I stopped in front of the third bookshelf near the old study.
Maybe instinct.
Maybe curiosity.
Maybe something else.
