Here I was, sitting in my room in my family home, staring at the white wall and books scattered across my desk. I wasn't coming back, but no one had to know that. Yet. I'm pretty sure my brother, Allister or Alli, is going to stay right where he is. In the compound of Erudite. Forever. Unlike me. I'm sick of this place. The same corridors, the same four walls, the same people. I need a change. A big change.
"Brayden! It's time to go!" My mother shouted from the other room. Time for the choosing ceremony. My mother had always been very protective but she always seen my side of the story. We were on the same side for most things.
.
Our family all walked towards the Hub together, probably for the last time as a family. The streets were very crowded and so was the Hub.
"Hello Mr. And Mrs. Brooks." Jeanine said once we were inside, giving us a fake smile.
"Hello Jeanine, how are you?" My mother said giving her a fake smile back. I smirked at that but quickly wiped it off so no one would notice.
"I'm fine, thank you. I had no idea your children were choosing this year. What's your names?" She said and moved over to Alli and I.
"I'm Allister and this is my sister, Brayden." He said and shook her hand.
"Hello Brayden." She said and I saw a look in her eye, a hateful look.
"Hello." I said bluntly and my mum nudged me. I quickly put a fake smile on my face.
"Well good luck today, I hope you both choose wisely." Jeanine said and I nodded.
"Thank you." Alli said and smiled.
"Bye Jeanine." My father said and we walked away to our seats.
"If you stay you will have to put up with her for the rest of your life." My mum said and I chuckled. The ceremony started soon after and Marcus Eaton made this whole big speech about the factions and I swear I almost fell asleep. Then he started calling the names, in alphabetical order which meant Allister was before me.
"Brooks, Allister" he shouted out. Alli looked at us all and smiled before heading of to decide his fate. He slit his hand and held it in for a second before deciding, and holding it out. Only it didn't hit the water, it hit the Amity soil. He had switched factions he was now known as a traitor towards Erudite, my family.
"Brooks, Brayden" my name was called. I stood up and gave my father a hug before going to my mother.
"Dauntless." She whispered in my ear. I looked at her and she just nodded to me. I walked up the steps to meet my fate. I picked up the knife and slit my hand then held it out towards the bowl. The last thing I heard before the cheers was my blood sizzling on the hot coals.
