“Ruby, were here” Eleanor said waking me up from a not so comfortable sleep.

I looked out the small plane window and could see the buildings that towered over the cars, i could see the river that snaked through the city, but most of all, I could see the dull, cold weather that we were travelling above. I miss Australia. I miss my friends.  And most of all, i miss Ashton.

It took us an hour to get through customs and collect our suitcases, which surprisingly, mine had to be last. I love this country already. The wheels smoothly rolled against the shiny surfaced floor as we made our way to some kind of transport to take us to our ‘new home’.

It didn’t take us long from the airport, maybe 1, or two hours at the most.

“See you later Sandra,Eleanor, and il be here to pick you up at 8 in the morning for you ruby” The taxi man said

I had a confused look plastered on his face as he said he would pick me up. Where the hell am i going at 8 on a Monday morning. And why do i need a taxi driver?

Im not entirely sure what my mum does as a living, i know she deals with management in some form, but i don’t know entirely how, why or where.

“school darling” my mother said as we took the suitcases from the boot

“im not having a day off to unpack” i said looking at her

“no, the school wouldn’t let you have any more time off, your already 2 weeks late  into the semester” she said

I huffed and looked at the house that was standing in front of me. Wow. Was all that was flowing through  my mind.

The house looked newly built, with a cream paint covering the walls. The door was old fashioned wood with plants either side.

“welcome to our new home” my mum said as she hugged Eleanor.  Her favourite child.

She opened the door as the scent of gingerbread filled my lungs. I love gingerbread.

The house had all of our furniture already in and designed quite nice actually, but the thought of some stranger in my house did creep me out a little.

“ruby your room is the third door to your right, Eleanor ours is second” my mum said as she picked up her phone

I shook my head. We haven’t even been in this country more than 5 minutes and she is already on the phone to a work colleague. Sometimes, It honestly feels like work is 1st, children is 2nd. Thats life though.

I walked up the stairs, a little bit out of breath when i reached the top.

I opened the door and noticed how my room was empty besides my bed.

“this is going to take a lot of work” i said to myself as i looked around

Yeah it was bigger than the one back home, but it didn’t compare. I had memories back in that room, but i can’t keep dwelling on the past, time to look at the future.

I heard a honk outside and looked at the white van that was parked in our driveway. A rather large man with a very nice pair of trousers that fit perfectly under his arse showing his well...banana split, jumped out. eww.

Soon enough all my box’s were covering my floor blocking my way out.

I tactically put a load on my bed and walked downstairs to where Eleanor was reading a book.

“mum” i shouted

“in here” she shouted. I followed her voice in the kitchen

“yes my darling” she said
