"I see right through you." Mom says, eyeing me at the dinner table. I stop spooning mashed potatoes into my mouth and look at her like she had two heads.

"Honey, what are you talking about?" Danny asks mom, resting his hand on hers. He looks at her concerned and then points to her plate. "You haven't even touched your food."

"I'll eat it once my son starts telling the truth." She dead pans, staring straight at me.

Colton drops his fork and slams his hands on the dinning room table. With tears forming in his eyes, he looks towards mom. "Fine! I broke the window!"

"Wait, what?" Mom questions, looking toward the crying four year old. He gets out of the chair and runs to mom, hugging her with all his might.

"I'm sorry!" He wails, snot bubbling out of his nose. She tries to calm him down but fails as he continues to cry even louder. She gets up as fast as she can, which wasn't fast cause she's eight months pregnant, and takes Colt to his room. When she passes me, she smacks the back of my head and points to the stairs.

Finishing off my dinner, I walk upstairs to Colt's room and find mom telling him a story. "The prince had told the princess he'd give up anything for her, that she was his soulmate."

"What does that mean, mommy?" Colt looks up at her with those big green eyes. He had a way of melting your heart.

"Soulmates are two people who belong together." She answers. "So, the prince and princess decided to get back together, becoming the queen and king of the kingdom. The king then makes the young prince his son, giving him his last name. They lived happily ever after, having another prince and princess, with another prince coming soon. The end."

"You forgot the part about when the young prince was bullied by the queen into telling her a deep secret." I chime in, smiling at my mom and the half asleep Colton.

"I already know your secret, ungrateful prince." Mom sneers at me, making me laugh. She turns on the tv for Colt and makes me follow her out of the room.

"When were you gonna tell your mother you're into boys?" Mom deadpans. My jaw drops, paralyzing my body. "I'm so...so..."

"What?"

"Holy shit, get out!" She suddenly yells, pushing me towards the stairs.

"Mom, what is happening?" I ask, feeling a bit worried. Practically forcing me down the stairs, she points to the front door.

"Leave, boy." She mocks a southern accent, making her hands into a pretend gun, pointing them at me.

"Mom, are you kicking me out?" I ask her, feeling my heart break. My mom was always loving of her kids no matter what we did. "Why?"

"Just go. I'll call you when I've thought about this. Now, hasta la vista." She glares, fake shooting me. I feel my blood boil and walk out of the house, slamming the door with all my might. Fuck all of this. I've never been so hurt by mom before in my life. Dad, yes but my mom, no.

I start walking around the block, making my way down town to the mall and sit outside for half an hour. After, I get up and start making my way to the school. Going in the back, I run around the track a few times then look at my phone. Danny texted me.

Come back Ash. Your mom wants to talk.

Oh, I'll come back. And when I do, I'm gonna give her a piece of my mind.

"Surprise!" My family screams as confetti and streamers fly every which way as I walk in the front door. I look around and see everything decorated with balloons, banners and sparkly ribbons.
