Chapter One
"Hey, Em." I said as my BFF Emma ran up behind me.
"Hey. So psyched for tonight!" She exclaimed.
"Ya. So, ya coming over at five? That's when gymnastics ends, right?" I asked.
"Totally. And so sorry. It's just the last training class until our meet Sunday. It's really important. I'm fourteen now, and gymnastics stops for girls around age twenty four. So, if I wanna shine, I gotta do it," Em took a breath, "ya'll do!" She yelled into the wind. She loved trying to mimic my southern accent, but all she could do was add a few ya'lls.
"Hey ya'll, wait up!" My twin brother Danny yelled. We stopped.
"What?" We both said. My bro was really annoying, but, he's my brother- my twin brother, so we're close.
"Come on. Let's just walk." He said.
"Hey, Danniel. I'm coming over tonight, so ya gotta be," she blew out a puff of air, "gone."
"Hahaha," I laughed.
"Ya. Well, gotta go, my turn. See ya'll." Em said.
"KK. Bye." I yelled.
"Ya ya. Whatever. So, I have a question I normally wouldn't ask you, but, it's homework." Danny said.
"Wow. The great Danniel James cares about home work- and grades!" I laughed.
"Woah. No, not that far. It's just mom and dad might, well, care." He said, sighed, t hen laughed. "Sorry. But, I'm gonna do it now so I can go with Jay skiing this weekend in Colorodo. No snow here is Arizona, but yessss in Colorodo. Okay, so, this is for like Social Studies. You know four years ago when we moved from Texas to here?"
"Duh. We were in the middle of like fifth grade. But, doesn't matter. We're here, we made it to the middle of freshman year. So far..." I said.
"Well. We had pretty heavy accents, and now, they're getting lighter. I'm supposed to find when they will leave." Danny sounded a little said.
"You know, I miss Texas. We spent our childhood there. And if it took four years to get about ¼ 'lighter'. So I would think about twelve years. Bye then it might be very faint, or no accent at all. Or, we could end up keeping it." I said.
"Ya. Ok. So-" That's when my life changed forever.
A man, ruffle twenty five, emerged from the shadows. "I am Eli, a Bitter for the Vampire Prep School of Arizona. We have sensed radiation on you for some time, and we feel we can no longer ignore you." The shadow guy said.
I was scared, "me? Or Danny?" I said surprisingly calm
"This is a unique case—actually the first one of it ever. You both- Danny and you, both have radiation. You are the first twin humans to be bitten at the same time." Eli said.
I looked at Danny for help. I was so scared. Then, Eli lunged forward and bit Danny's neck. "No!" I screamed. I backed up so far that I was off the path and resting my back on the bark off a tree. I was scared, and panting. Eli walked over to me and bit my neck.
"Ah! Ow! Helpppp!" It hurt so bad. It felt like I just gulped down gasoline then swallowed fire. It felt like I was just shot in the leg. It felt like I was dying. Even though I was in pain, I searched for Danny. He was lying on the path screaming in pain. But then he stopped, I wonder why? "Oww!" I screamed again. The pain was unbearable. It was horrible, like being maul- then it didn't hurt anymore. But, it felt good. It felt like stepping into a hot tub, or being massaged by a professional. "That feels good. Ya feel that, Danny? Hey Eli, what is that?"
