This time I woke up earlier. Only 20 minutes earlier.

I did my daily routine of hair brushing and whatnot, put on some skinny jeans, vest, short-sleeve shirt, and high tops and very quietly went downstairs. I ate some Coco Puffs and went out kn the hallway, only seeing one or two kids so far.

I felt the bite. Still there and I could feel it. It wasn't cold out. It was cool.

"We just keep seeming to find each other." I jumped and spun around.

"Seriously. no matter how cute you are, Justin I must ask, are you stalking me?" He shook his head.

"No." He looked at my necklace. "Cute necklace."

"Thank you." I turned around and he followed me.

"So-about last night," he continued, "sorry about that. I wasn't in-control. I don't know what got into me. You're not mad are you?"

I looked at him. Something in me flickered. "Mad? Am I mad? Yes, I'm mad! You can't just go around biting people-especially me-without their permission! Who do you think you are?" To my annoyance he looked amused. "Well, I'm just going to go to Prof.Meadows to see if she's there."

'She's not there. Neither is Prof.Hunted. And yes-before you ask-her class is usually sometimes that quiet. So you want to go to the courtyard?"

"Sure!" So I followed him to the tree and we sat down. "Are you still dating Ivy?" Did I just say that?

"Well, yes. But I'm thinking of breaking up with her. To go with someone more special."

I blushed. But that was still kinda mean. I know I said I wanted him but that doesn't mean he has to break up with his girlfriend even if she is the "Queen of Mean". Just because he saw me. That's not right. I probably wouldn't even do that to someone else.

I may not like Ivy but she should still stay with Justin. I think. "Have you ever bit her?" I really need to shut up. But I was prodding him. He shifted nervously.

"No. Why?"

"Oh, nothing." Amanda whispered something. "Where do you go to at night? Well, morning. You know what I mean," I asked him.

"Nowhere." I thought about the necklace. Might as well try it out.

"Tell me where you go!" My voice had gotten all deep, dark, and stuff.

"I spy on people for my leader. I'm not really what you think I am." Justin stared at me with wide eyes. "How'd you do that?!" He looked kind of freaked out. I don't blame him.

"I-"

"Uh-hum! Why, hello Ashlee. So the rumor is true. You are a siren. And uh, I don't know, what do you think you are doing with my boyfriend?"

I turned around and saw Ivy. "Yeah I'm a siren. Should I fill you up with sorrow and a side of shut up? And also, I'm just talking to him like everyone else would. I'm just sitting and talking."

"Yeah, what's that? On your neck."

"It's a mark. Two holes where I hurt myself."

"Did a vamp or fledgling bite you?"

"No! I mean no. I said I hurt myself. Are you deaf or something, 'cause you seem not to be able to hear me." Her nose flared. I'd hit the spot. In stood up and looked her deeply in the eyes. "Now, go away."

"Okay." And she left.

"Yes! Now you should be able to shape-shift."

"Amanda what just happened?"

"You hypnotized her. Now think of yourself as a hawk." I did just that and-poof-I was flying. Wow. It was this easy to shape-shift but not that easy to turn into a bat. I am so messed up.

I wanted to be a fledgling again. Poof! I dropped to the floor on my butt. Wow and weird. No creepy. 'Can I teach that to my friends?"

"No. You can't. Only you can do it anyway so even if you tried to teach them it still wouldn't work." I'd forgotten Justin was there.

"She was right. You are unusual! A weapon!" I looked at him.

"What? Who is 'she'?"

"No one." He vanished.

"Ugh!" I wandered around the school. I passed one very dark long looking hallway. It felt cold. I skipped right past it.

I got tired and stomped back across the courtyard to the girls dorms and sat on one of the comfy couches. Thinking about what Justin had said.

H'es not what I think he is. He spies on people. That left me with even more questions than answers. I'm so frustrated...

Then I thought about my hypnotizing and shape-shifting. It wouldn't work on them, aye?

What had Justin meant by 'She was right. I am unusual. A weapon.'? Who is 'she'? Jeez.

My life just got even more complicated. And to think-the only thing I'd have to worry abut is homework and boy troubles. Wrong!

I looked at my wings. How did I get my shirt on?

"Hey Dimitri! I was worried about you!" I heard Erika's worried voice before I saw her. There was no one else down here yet. She sat on the couch with me.

"No need to be worried? Prof.Meadows not here today. We have free time for 40 minutes." I paused. "Hey, what year are Ivy and Justin in?"

"Umm...fifth year. We're in third year."

"How come I like blood?"

"I don't know..."

"That defeats my Myth # 2: Vampires don't drink blood. That bites."

"I know right! Hey, did you know your marks seem to be fading!" She handed me a mirror. Before they had been really bright. Now they were very pale. "Ooh. Maybe you're turning into an adult vamp! That'd be cool!"

"Yeah, but it's also weird. Me, my extra marks, and a bunch of other things. Also, just a few minutes ago, I found out I can hypnotize people."

Her eyes widened. "Try it on me!" I raised an eyebrow. She nodded.

"O...kay. Um, slap yourself silly until I say stop." My voice got deep again. Slap, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap. "Stop!"

"Ow. That hurts. That was so cool though. And your voice...it changes. Weird."

"I know. It worked on Ivy when we had a little drama fest. Also, it worked on Justin too. Plus, he's been acting weird lately. Incognito. He said he's not who I think he is and that he spies on people.

"Say no more," Amanda hissed.

Erika asked, "What else?"

"Uh-nothing." I quickly added, "So, Ivy and Amanda are the leaders of the so-called Dark Children's?"

"Yeah. Sometimes they have these cheerleader outfits. They never tell us "nobodies" what they're really doing." I had a sly smile on my face.

"Then I think it's time we found out..."
