"Can you believe it?" Jocelyn exclaimed, her eyes full of excitement as she ran through the long hallway. "We've finally graduated!" I chuckled as she leapt for joy and spun on her heel to face me.

"Careful!" I yelped when she knocked over a plant sitting comfortably on the bookshelf beside my bedroom door. Usually it was my job to knock random things over, or trip on absolutely nothing, yet there my best friend stood, gripping onto the vase that was close to smashing on the wooden floor boards.

"I'm just so excited!" Jocelyn squealed, letting herself into my room. I rolled my eyes at her enthusiasm and closed the door behind me, staring at the calendar that was filled with red crosses.

"You and me both." I sighed, crossing one more day off.

"Cheer up Bexley, three more days and it'll feel like high school never really ended." I appreciated Jocelyn's optimism, and I only wished to share it with her. But it was a known fact that high school was indeed over and I was due to begin my life, as a mail girl.

My dad's company was once the biggest magazine organisation in New York, but now it was lacking as he wasn't 'fresh' enough for the new generations. There was only so much a fifty two year old could do, and running a teenage girls magazine wasn't one of them anymore.

So, I had to begin the long process of being the mail sorter, then a receptionist, an assistants assistant and eventually the assistant of my father himself. Then he would teach me the ropes and in no time I would take over Magirl. That was bound to take years.

"I've been packed for weeks!" Jocelyn cheered excitedly when she saw my suitcase, zipped shut and empty. I was still yet to earn the approval of my parents, the plan of attack was to ask my mum first and then use her assumed yes to tell my dad I was going on a road trip. And I only had three days to do so, and I only had three days to find a car.

-

"What do you mean 'no', mum said yes." I fell back onto the couch and stared at the ceiling, awaiting my fathers response.

"You are not going on a road trip with a bunch of boys." I sat upright, staring at my dad wide eyed.

"Who said there were going to be any boys?"

"You're friend let it slip at dinner." I threw my head back and groaned, terribly annoyed at Jocelyn in that moment.

"But dad, it's just a roadtrip!"

"I've been on a few Bexley Iris Adams, and I know what happens." From the kitchen I heard my mum cough loudly, exaggerating it so we knew that she too was listening.

"I'm not stupid, I know what could happen too, but dad."

"No." He held up his hand and stared me straight in the eye, "you are not going on this trip and that is final." I wanted to scream and throw a tantrum, but that wouldn't help my case of 'I'm responsible and mature enough to go on a month or so road trip.' Instead I just groaned and dragged my body to my room, phone already in hand and dialling Jocelyn's number. She was going to hear it from me.

"And?" She asked excitedly upon answering her outdated phone.

"Jocelyn I am going to rip you apart, one limb at a time."

"Bex, that sounds very sexual. I didn't know we had that kind of relationship." Jocelyn joked, clearly not getting the memo.

"Oh my God, Jocelyn! You're the reason I can't go, my dad heard what you said about the guys." I wanted to hit her head against my bedroom wall, or better yet a brick wall.
